Our record since being the #1 seed on December 30th.

Totally and utterly pathetic.

How does a team fall that far? I realize Zion went out, but this is almost the same team that went on a massive run in the late year last season. Something is up. They just aren't passing the eye test as far as effort.

Complete collapse since Zion went down.

And it hasn't gotten better since BI came back.

So either BI ain't that guy or there's something else going on.

I'd like to know what BI and Zion's relationship is really like.

Yea, word on the street was how our starting five could match any team in the league and that our bench was deep. So something has to give. Either we need to replace our “talent” or get a new coach.

The Pistons, who have the second worst record in the league, are also 7-20 in their last 27. This roster has it's issues, but even without Zion it's good enough that they should be able to keep their head above water. It's a complete and utter failure.

At one time we were.

Then Zion went down, CJ reverted to a shell of himself. Jonas looks like he can only realistically play half a season these days before he's just washed, and Herb somehow looks worse shooting the ball then in college.

Willie insists on overloading the rotation with defensive wing non-shooters and abandoning altogether the dual big lineups that allowed the Pels to compensate for Jonas's lack of rim protection and vulnerability in PnR and use our size and speed to bully teams.

That is totally sobering.

Legitimately tanking teams, teams that actively DO NOT want to win, have the same record over that stretch.

Teams with rookies and guys not making 30+ a year.

Something is deeply wrong and broken. Heads might need to roll.

Honestly, I really worry about another hotseat Griff off-season

I can legitimately see him doing something stupid like giving up the warchest for some marginal moves that arent suitable beyond a season or 2 cause of future salary implications. Shrinking our window and not actually achieving the goal aside from buying Griff another year or 2.

It's scary to think a lot of these guys may be exactly who we thought they were, and for a minute they just had us fooled.

Beyond. One of the worst teams in the league right now.

Here's the thing, we really are very similar to the Lakers to start the season.

Two very good players. One injured and not at full strength.

Then a bunch of bench guys that don't compliment one another and zero shooting.

Bad coaching, offensive scheme is a joke. role players are redundant. Literally no shooting. No rim protection. And losing heart by the day.

Feels like Willie Green does the same thing every game. Even when we were doing better. We hardly ever try to take advantage of other teams weaknesses defensively/matchups. And we play the same defense everytime. Constant switching, hardly any double teams on stars, etc.

TL;DR - we make it a lot harder on ourselves than we need to every damn game.

Yeah, this is true, unfortunately.

If only if there had been a relatively low-cost opportunity at the deadline to add some shooters and a modern switchable big with some dog in him. Maybe grab a throw in young big that can bang, board, and hit a couple threes when the matchup calls...

Sadly, no such opportunity possibly existed

Not to mention taking those options away from the Lakers makes their pick that you own swap rights to worse.

Griffin seems to be getting off light, but we are again stuck with a cluster of a team. That has to fall on the GM, doesn't it.

One thing painfully obvious again this year is we lack good shooters. Hell we lack avg shooters.

A lot of this attributable to Zion and BI being unavailable, however the nosedive also has a lot to do with the Pels stubbornness and infatuation with small ball. They’ve ran Nance into the ground playing him as a full time 5, shot TM3’s confidence dogging him for not playing heads up while giving away 25lbs on the defensive end, and making Val ineffective by putting him on an island with little interior help.

Drop may not have been as steep if they’d :
-Rotate Jaxson and Billy with Nance and Hayes in the frontcourt
-Let TM3, Herb, Richardson, Naji compete for wing minutes
-Let Kira and Jose compete for point minutes

Pels have a favorable schedule but have little time to right the ship. Dyson should be available to shore up perimeter defensive issues, but I am not confident the Pels will attempt to alter their strategy of running undersized points and wings with a compromised 5.

The Pels were 5th in 3 pointers made and 7th in 3P% in Gentry's last season. That was built largely off of 3 good shooters, JJ Redick, BI, and Lonzo. You should be able to get in the ball park of that performance with CJ, BI and Trey, but the team isn't trying to shoot a bunch of 3s.

What a lot of people see as "we don't have shooters" is really more "The only players getting good shots are the ones the defense is choosing to ignore." I think one of the biggest needs of the offseason is bringing in an Offensive Coordinator so we can generate more than Herb corner 3s or BI mid ranges vs. double teams.

And I'm not saying the team couldn't use more shooting, just that what appears to be lack of shooting looks to me like a poorly organized and executed offense.

Anyone think there's budding frustration between Griff/Willie?

Been suggested that Griff traded Graham just for Willie to stop playing him.

Griff can't survive a third coach firing right? Somehow, they have to make this work.

I always assumed Graham was playing a bunch to put him in the shop window before the trade deadline.
