Actually the best case scenario that I can see is:
This forces the Lakers to go all in for the next 2 years, trading more future picks and acquiring more future salary on risky players.
Lebron retires after the 2023-2024 and does not take his player option, however the Lakers are over the cap anyway with no tradeable assets.
Pels defer pick to 2025 in what could be a tough year.

Spot on.
Should be an entertaining ride.

Yeah, I feel certain that this was conditioned on dumping Westbrook, which probably means trading their 2027 and 2029 picks.
That will hurt our chances of getting a great pick with our swap this coming season, but I think that the 2025 pick looks golden.

Lakers get over double the national games as Pels (39 NG), and didn’t even make the playoffs….

Seeing that Westbrick, LeBron, AD lineup failing would still be funny.

Obviously, the Lakers could still suck this season if LeBron gets hurt, but I think that they will otherwise have a chance at making the playoffs.

No matter who is playing for the Lakers this will always be the case....

great news for Pels fans.
I think I would have liked the odds better that he plays out this season, no Kyrie, then the rebuild starts next season.

the way the game has evolved.... and continues to trend towards a "shooters league".... he'll likely continue to improve on his 3 ball... and do like he did a few years back and AST totals rise...
Watching 2012 Game 6 last night on NBA TV @BOS its crazy to see the evolution of LeBron... you can make a case he has had 4 different primes... and he could very much so be in his 5th coming up.. Similar to how Brady extended his career... LeBron can likely do the same.

Yeah, shel, I'm with you on this one. I would rather have seen the total dysfunction of LeBron, Davis, and Westbrook this season, seen Lebron's relationship with the franchise continue to decline, and then seen LeBron leave the team and leave a wasteland behind.
But I think that this pretty much guarantees that the 2025 pick will be good, whether LeBron picks up the option or not. He'll be 41 by the end of that season, so we might end up hoping that he plays for the Lakers that season.

All that kind of talk sounds like the teams in the AFC east when Brady just continued to stack...
Yes, there's plenty going on in LALA Land.... but given a healthy roster they can win.
So continue the poor health of AD and Bron... thats the only focus that should be there.

They still have to get Brooklyn to the table.
If they think they have Durant sticking around, they have no reason to dump Kyrie.

It takes a lot more athleticism to play in the NBA as a primary ball handler, than it does to play QB in the NFL.

But I feel much less good about KD staying with the Nets as of this past week than I did before. The moment KD made the fire Nash/Marks thing public, I don't think he really cares about them 2 being fired, that was just him saying I will make this as ugly as possible until you're forced to trade me. I thought the Nets may just keep him and they'll play out this season at least to the trade deadline. But with that going public, I don't know there's much of any chance KD returns now.

Honestly, I think the Nets stand pat if only because Durant’s bullshite was so poorly timed that they couldn’t get any good trade offers for him.
What’s Durant going to do, retire and finish destroying his legacy because a team won’t dump him with four years left on his contract

Nets are already a three ring circus and have been for over a season.
I don’t see Tsai selling low on Durant just because he’s got a yeast infection.

Tied to all of this, the Nets do have this year’s pick with the Rockets having swap right. And the Rockets aren’t good yet.
Playing out the string this year has a possibility of giving them a decent draft pick and figuring out what they have in Simmons before deciding to do anything with Durant.

Lebron coming into his 5th prime, jesus Longhorn that may have been the stupidest take you've had yet and you've had plenty in this thread alone
