It raises their floor but I don’t think by much as of now.
Them claiming they want Seth Curry or Joe Harris in the deal? frick THAT. Lakers are already getting the better player in the deal and Brooklyn won’t see picks until 26 at the earliest.

Nets have to send out more than Kyrie otherwise salaries don’t work, plus remember they’re in the tax so if they’re taking on Westbrook and giving Kyrie and Harris, and take Westbrook, that lowers their salary by 8.5 million

If Harris is fricked, sending him out has multiple purposes.
Salary matching
Dumping a bad player on the Lake Show
Cutting luxury tax

Kyrie irving is so unreliable that I don't know how you can be confident in him.
They would still have the worst roster in the league outside of those guys.

Not sure it’s a lovefest for kyrie, it’s moving off Westbrook and getting an actual asset.

They also would probably pay Kyrie next year locking them into another top heavy core that still needs LeBron healthy to be anything special.

Follow-up tweet about Kyrie/Westbrook from Chris Haynes at Yahoo:

Brooklyn Nets maintain discussions have only been preliminary at this point, sources say.

I just posted in the FA thread that Toronto isn't putting Barnes on the table and Brooklyn hasn't been happy with any of the Phoenix offers. I'm starting to think Kyrie and KD start the season playing for Brooklyn.

Or *not* playing for Brooklyn.
But, yeah, Brooklyn is going to suck in any case next season, so why worry about trading them right now. If you are Brooklyn, you can wait until December when other teams will have more flexibility, and when KD and Kyrie might be open to more teams.

it would be malpractice for the nets to send curry instead of harris. If the lakers want Irving that bad they’ll take what they can get
Lakers have no leverage and this is their only play. Nets should get both picks and make them take Harris with Irving.
Going forward the lakers would have to extend Irving, swallow another year of Harris AND deal with lebron and his foolishness (likely 1+1 at the max). They’ll be no better off than they are now

lakers are so fricking stupid.
let Westbrook expire
tell lebron to kick rocks
tell AD to get his arse in the gym and try to be the league MVP
use the massive cap space they would have to poach another teams best player.
work the margins and develop some young players

I miss KB. He would understand and explain everything that I’m not allowed to. Honestly he was the greatest Laker ever. He understood team over self. Meaning your rewards would come if you valued team goals over your own then everything would fall into place. All can reply.
Posted in the off-season thread, but maybe more appropriate here. Jeanie buss on twitter. Trouble in Laker land?

It's funny to read the replies, because some people think that she's obviously talking about Westbrook, and some think that she's taking a shot at LeBron.
Me: maybe she's talking about all three of her stars.

I think that the decision that Buss and Pelinka have made is to placate LeBron now by signing almost exclusively Klutch players, but not to extend the Lakers decline into the long term.

Maybe the Nets ownership position on KD/Kyrie will show JB to not be held hostage by her own players anymore and roll with what she’s got without mortgaging the future.
This would obviously be the best outcome for the Pels and would help salvage some kind of Laker future.

Yes
Very interesting and obvious that the best outcome for the lakers is also the best outcome for the pels.
of course that will require standing up to klutch and showing lebron the door. Takes balls of steel and you just know the plastic lakers fans will revolt.
