So he’s probably referring to the rap of the current generation. It really is the worst kind of noise. The lyrics and music are garbage. If you can even call it lyrics or music. Most of the lil “” rappers are trash. IMO
But the groups you mentioned plus Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys even Eminem etc.. are legit rappers with some good stuff. He probably hasn’t heard of most of it not including Eminem

STP were absolutely part of the grunge movement. I’d say even in the same breath as Nirvana, AIC, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden

I never heard anyone say Prince wasn't a proficient guitarist.

Not many, but a few.
Also, I was pretty much done after 1999. I want to say that was around the time he wanted to get away from WB’s but had to fulfill his contract. The music went down hill pretty quickly save for a track here and there.

I just think he wasted his talent making really awful music.
Did you ever try to listen to some of his independent crap he put out after W.B. fired him in the early 90s? Holy cripe, it was awful. That's when he was running around with the word "slave" written on his face. I think Sony also ended up firing him during another period of time.
