Vito Bratta is another phenomenal talent from that era.
I have 2 hair metal bucket list items:

1)see Vito Bratta play live (preferably with White Lion)

2)see Europe play live in Europe

John Norum was a fantastic guitarist. Had a few of his solo records in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Will have to revisit his discography. It’s been awhile. Just loved his phrasing & his playing.

Yeah. Perhaps the most fluid speed player of all time. Look at his runs in Superstitious.

The solo or the rest of the song? I think it was Kee Marcello who played the solo in that one. That is a great solo. I was able to learn most of it not long ago. Just need to work on that long fast legato run right before the end.

Believe it or not, White Lion played twice in Monroe, LA in the late 80's. They opened for Stryper in 88 & then for Cinderella in 89 & I went to both shows. Vito was amazing but you could tell he wasn't into it at all despite how great his playing was & had zero emotion while was the rest of the band was having the time of their lives. It also could have been he was playing in Monroe, LA. He never took off his sunglasses the entire shows. The guy could flat out play. I'm not surprised at all he quit the music business & became a recluse.

___________
Agreed. I marveled at Robert Sweet's insane drum set that was about the size of a tank for about 5 songs & headed out. There was nothing like the 80's.

Nope. Stryper was good. The entire To Hell with the Devil album smokes.

One of my favorite intros ever. This is the re-recorded version from Second Coming (similar to Scorpions' Come Black album):

If anyone has seen Stryper live in the past 10 years or so, they will be well aware of how utterly crushing their live production is now. It bent my brain.

From a technical standpoint?
Probably goes to winger.

This one probably goes to Metallica. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Metallica.

Can you explain the reasons behind your choice?

Musicianship? Songwriting? How they dressed? Lyrics?

Everything you mentioned, plus record sales, touring, the music video for "One,"...

I would have to disagree on musicianship. I honestly think the guys in Winger were better players.

I’m pretty sure James hetfield and Kirk would say Kipp winger is a more talented musician and songwriter than they are.

Popularity and music genre are key in people’s opinions regarding this comparison.

Of the bigs in heavy metal (slayer, megadeth, Metallica, anthrax, pantera), Metallica is not exactly at the top of the list in regards to talent especially after Cliff wasn’t around anymore.

Except for the most important talent…..songwriting, which Metallica wins by a mile IMO

Robert Trujillo is easily the best bass player out of the bands you mentioned. James and Kirk are both excellent guitarists. Lars is at least on the same level as Vinnie Paul

Metallica’s Black Album alone has far better songwriting than Winger’s entire catalog.

Black album…

The great thing about it is everyone has their own thing and can enjoy it. Question. How many bridges or pre choruses does the Black Album have? I’m asking a serious question because I’ve never listened to the entire album.

For me, when you start talking about song-writing, I want to hear something more than verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, verse, chorus.

Finally, if you think Lars Ulrich is half the drummer Rod Morgenstein is, we simply can’t continue this debate.

I'll have to go back and count, but certainly you are aware that Enter Sandman has a pre-chorus. It also has a post-solo bridge-like spoken word section.

The God That Failed has a pre-chorus
