Time to Surrender should have been released as a single off that album. Reb Beach is an amazing guitarist.

Story time:
One time a stranger tried to be a bro and throw me a life preserver. When I was a kid, I sent my mother to Sound Warehouse to track down Winger's 1988 eponymous debut cassette for my birthday. Instead, my mother came home with R.E.M.'s Document cassette. Apparently, they were sold out of Winger and a salesperson recommended R.E.M. as an alternative. Unfortunately, I directed my mother to return the R.E.M. cassette and try again to obtain Winger, which she did.
How my path in life might have been completely different today had I not been deadset on listening to Winger over R.E.M back then.

How the hell could anyone recommend REM as a suitable replacement for Winger? Those bands sound nothing alike.

I would bet money the hipster working that day at the record store in 1988 that looked like Morrissey was thoroughly disgusted that someone would have the audacity to want to buy a Winger album & he picked out the new album by his favorite band as a joke to put that mother & her son in their place.

You know that's what happened.

quote:Nah. It was a fun form of popular music that delivered scores - if not hundreds - of quality tunes.
At least we can blame it on cocaine or something so when we look back, it's not totally a "WTF was that period?" Outside of being a little bit nostalgic for it, it was pretty bad though. It took good bands and turned them into a formulated mockery.

Dude was probably just recommending something he personally liked.
Or, as is more fun to imagine, he was trying to save me from myself.

Winger is a good band but became 'cool to hate'.
Reb Beach is a freaking LEGIT guitarist.

Rod Morgenstein taught at Berklee for 20 years and played in the Dixie Dregs with Steve Morse.

He was trying to save a young and impressionable shutter... but apparently he was too stubborn to get out of his own way...

Wow! Just think how different his life might have been if he would have just listen to REM. Sad

But what would the musical geniuses of Wu Tang think?
That’s the real question.
