quote:Yes they are. They defined the entire modern era.
The beatles broke up over 20 years before I was born. They are not of my time in any way, shape, or form.

They really are.

They are literally two entire generations removed from the music which was “modern” to me. I am not saying that the Beatles were not incredibly influential. Just that they are not of “my” time. The world in which they inhabited and shaped bears little in common with the world in which I lived.

I just found this cover on Spotify surprisingly. I love this cover and the movie it’s from.
This song kinda chokes me up every time I hear. Beautiful Lyrics

Great movie. And Lilly James is so damned adorable.

It's the melodies. They're good. You can speed them up, slow them down, male/female, all different genres. If a melodie is good its timeless. The Beatles were masters of melody.

John didn't get a whole lot of musical encouragement from adults.
His Aunt Mimi was the only one who didn't encourage him.
His mother and Mimi's husband, George, most certainly did. In fact, Julia bought him his first guitar.

They are the starting point for "modern rock music"

They are products of their era which they came to define. However, music has changed tremendously. There have been 3+ generational shifts since then. They were definitely the most influential band of their time, one could even argue all time. However, it hasn't been their time for over 50 years now. We are not in the Beatles' era, and haven't been for a while.

I certainly never said we were in the Beatles Era.
Ive only recently become interested in their music and history.
But I believe that their influence on other musicians will be forever. Hell it’s probably studied in Top Music Schools.

There have been additional genres and subgenres come and go, but The Beatles music is still modern rock music.
Hey Jude would be a hit today.

Sociologists are still studying Beatlemania. They had an affect on young people that transcended culture. They weren't just big in the English speaking world. They were a phenomenon in Argentina, Brazile, Mexico, Spain, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Korea, Philippines, etc.
The Soviets banned them because of fear that their youth would revolt.
