Why did Zach Bryan get so big?

I don't listen to that type of music but I hear and read about him everywhere. Setting attendance records, crazy prices for tickets, etc. I hear tons of people saying he's the greatest musician going.
I come in peace, but I just don't get it. I've heard a few songs from each album, and it just sounds like another guy I'd hear walking down Austin or Nashville. I don't think his voice sticks out. What am I missing and why is he on top of the world?
More power to him, seems like a cool guy. My buddy sent me Fear and Fridays off his new album, and I listened and just don't get it. He's just talking.
I just don't see how this guy is considered so much better than Isbell, Sturgill and Stapleton all of a sudden. I think those guys can sing him out of the building.

They put on a hell of a live show and they’re really good musicians. Some of their covers are exceptional.

This is a key factor IMO, if people like you, they will promote you. I don't know his music, but being nice to people pays off.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I’m a big fan of Zach Bryan. We all like different stuff. And I agree with you Stugill and Stapleton are better singers, but I still listen to Zach Bryan more than them. I think this new album is great as well.
I don’t know how to explain it but I think it’s just how raw his music is. Some probably don’t like that. To each his own.

Does all of his songs still sound the same and you can barely tell one from the other? Haven't checked him out in a long while.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted to hell….dude puts on a fricking show
Dude came on the scene like 3-4 years ago and he’s selling out arenas. Something isbell hasn’t done(fyi…isbell might be my all time favorite) or turnpike or American aquarium
Y’all quit listening to him please. Makes it easier to get a ticket

Sturgill wishes he could be Zach
Sturgill has alienated a ton of his fan base

He’s a great storytelling songwriter. His lyrics are amazing. The music is boring and I need a little more personally, but I get why people that like that kind of music dig him.

Boring and need more personality. That’s a great description
Just sounds like a dude. Like I said, the first song off his new album is him strumming a C note and talking for 90 seconds and my buddies said it’s so powerful and emotional. If John Smith would have put that out everyone would say it’s cringe.

I’ve thought the same thing. I have no idea why he has so much mass appeal, and it happened so quickly.

I generally like Zach Bryan, not my favorite or anything, but think his songs are approachable to a mainstream audience in maybe a way that better non-Nashville country artists aren’t. There’s a market for people zigging while Nashville is zagging and he fills the niche the same way Tyler Childers has.
I’ve seen a couple interviews with him and he seems like a cool dude who listens and engages with his fans, and he’s fighting Ticketmaster which is a plus.

I think there's a desire for something stripped down these days. Most of what is commercial country now is overproduced and shiny and perfect. It's very formulaic and frankly pretty trite and I think people that want to listen to country music that's not shiny and pretty that basically dominates radio country.
I think guys like Bryan are making that type of music, or at least are making what's perceived as that type of music and there's a real draw for that now.

if he wasn't being played on mainstream country media and selling out major venues and only playing theatres
most of the guys bashing him on this board would be sucking his dick

Saw him at the Railbird Festival. That was a really awesome show.
I think he's more commercial than Isbell, Sturgill, Stapleton or Childers. Personally, I prefer any of those 4 over ZB...but he still puts on a heckuva show.

They just announced he is playing Jerry World/AT&T Stadium/Cowgirls Stadium next August with Jason Isbell opening. This is insane.

He appeals to a very wide audience.
