You'd be surprised at how much Beethoven and Mozart you'd recognize from movies and cartoons, even.

Just watching the the Mozart vs Beethoven videos on Youtube, you find very popular pieces that you didn't know were written by them.

This.

There are many composers living today who write in the classical concert style, but no one give a shite about them.

People appreciated pure music more in the days of Mozart and Beethoven.

Honestly, I believe it has little to do with the popularity of music today and more about society's goals. You people may not realize it but Beethoven and some of the other classical composers were prodigies. As a kid, Beethoven memorized the first symphony he heard in it's entirety after one listen. Try asking Jack White to do that. These kids were identified at an early age and groomed their entire lives by the best of the prior generation.

Same with the great philosophers of their time. Same with the great renaissance artists. We have sports today and pro athletes are our society's geniuses. Granted, there are still tons of prodigies born each year with tremendous abilities but we don't adore/support their crafts as much as pro sports.

1. John Williams (star wars) original score

2. Hans Zimmer (last samurai, King Arthur,
3. James Horner
4. Howard Shore
5. Harry Gregson Williams
6. Trevor Jones (last of mohicans)
7. Wagner (valcree)

mozart and beethoven did not have movies to write for.....should not lessen what these 7 have created.

Off the top of my head...

If you watched Tom & Jerry, you know some Liszt.

If you watched Gilligan, you know some Bizet.

If you're a Kubrick fan, you know some Strauss (both Johann and Richard), Beethoven, and Rossini.

Rachmaninoff is all over The Seven Year Itch.

Berlioz was used to menace Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy.

it isnt just sports. Most adults would prefer to watch Jersey Shore or the bachelor than watch/read/listen to anything thought provoking.
