Really? Eddie seems to kinda mumble and squeal his way through it to me. Chris Cornell on the other hand can sing.
Nah, Vedder has a unique voice but is a very good singer. One of those love it or hate it voices. LINK
I think Vedder's voice compliments the mood of PJ's music better than any other group I can think of.

Stephen Jenkins is brutal but a lyrical genius.
Cornell when sober is one of the best rock voices all time

Holy Lord, you and I couldn't disagree more.
IMO Chris Cornell should have been in a second rate heavy metal band. Yes, he sings loud and high - but there's absolutely nothing behind it.
On the temple of the dog song (for example): Cornell vocally masturbates for the first minute or so of the song (ok - maybe that's a bit harsh) - and then Vedder comes in. And it gets interesting at that point. Listen to it. Start around :50

There is a depth to vedder's vocal not present in Cornell.
(and yes I know the bass coming in helps, but focus on the depth of the vocals). Cornell acts like a singer. Vedder is a singer.
Oh, and

I'd say that's an accurate statement.

I kind of want to say Willie Nelson, but also think that may be sacrilegious.

Calling REK or Dylan or Willie or Townes Van Zandt shitty singers is like calling your avatar Robert Duvall a shitty actor because he doesn't do it like everyone else does.

My bad cuz. Next time I do this thread I'll go with the term sub-par vocalist.

I get the point of your OP, and it's a good one. But too many people want to defend their favorite singers from being called shitty.
"unconventional" singer might be a better description than sub-par.

Eddie has notes in him that you don't typically hear in their radio stuff. I listen to tons of their bootlegs regularly and when he's going off on an extended jam of theirs he'll come out of nowhere with a high note that trips me out
He's just not one of those singers that jerks himself off vocally when a song doesn't call for it

The thread title is kinda tounge in cheek. The people I mentioned are some of my favorite musicians/singers of all time. I wouldn't like them if they were literally shitty. I think most people got the point.
