Who's the GOAT Folk Singer?

Who do you put at the top of this genre. It's probably my favorite genre mainly for the unique voices and songwriting skills by some of the artists.
I'd have em:
1. Cat Stevens - The end-all, be-all for me personally. Such a unique voice and one of the greatest poets to ever put a tune to word. There have been entire days where I've just put him on my iPod and listened to nothing else. I have 5 of his original vinyls, and I wouldn't part with them for a fortune.
2. James Taylor - Maybe the softest voice of all-time. Has an incredible way of writing such simple yet heartfelt lyrics. Another guy I could listen to all day simply because he puts me in such a great mood.
3. Jim Croce - Could have passed Taylor on this last had his career and unfortunately his life been cut short in a plane crash. I'll Hafta Say I Love You in a Song might be my favorite post-humorous songs of all-time. He seems like he'd be a helluva dude to have a night-out with.
4. Gordon Lightfoot - Never really became a huge star, but has some damn good hits. If You Could Read My Mind is such an awesome song.
Who yal got?

Yea I often wonder how good Croce could have been, definitely one of the biggest losses in music history.

Jim Croce? Really?
John Prine is the greatest folk singer ever, and many folk singers would agree.

It's amazing how he never got the recognition he deserved from the music industry yet he's been chugging along

Absolutely, but I think you have to go by what he did and not what he could've done.
John Prine not being on this list is crazy to me. You've never Listened to him I guess?

My definition of Folk Music must be different from the rest of the world.
Jim Croce and James Taylor belong to the "Singer/Songwriter" genre of Popular music.
Folk music greats are people like Prine, Woody and Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and Peter, Paul, & Mary.
-----------------
ETA: and, IMO, the best folk artist/group around today is Alison Krauss + Union Station (even though that isn't their entire focus). They can hoe down, throw down, and slow down with the best of them.

Isn't Bob Dylan a folk singer? If so I guess he'd have to be #1. John Prine would be 1a. Doc Watson, Guy Clark, Todd Snider, Gillian Welch, Ralph Stanley would also be included in my favorites.
