Thinking of going to see them at Voodoo Fest since they're replacing Green Day
How crazy can i expect it to get? Would it be on a RATM level or a few notches below that?

I went to their concert in NOLA 2004. Very good, very loud, and they played 95% Black Album and older stuff.

Seen them twice and they were awesome. Not sure how the Voodoo crowd is gonna react.

Seen 'em about five times. Great band, but definitely not as crazy as they were in And Justice for All days.

Saw And Justice For All tour. It was a pretty good show but not really crazy like RATM or moshing. Mostly dudes standing or sitting still just head banging. But that was a loooooong time ago.
well then it would be pretty pedestrian now then.

Three times. The freaks come out of the woodwork for'em. Great concerts, every one of them.

Anyone know what time they go on? I was thinking about getting around 7, watching Metallica, then going home. They hardly ever tour the US anymore so I'd hate to miss them.

Saw them at Dreamforce last year. They are legit, but Hatfield's voice ain't what it once was.

Saw them Summer Sanatarium 2001. Was a hell of a concert...Metallica...Linkin Park....Limp Bizkit...Mudvayne...Deftones.
Metallica was legit, even though I was there for LP more. Wasn't too crazy, though it was in Houston at the new Reliant Stadium so it was a monster venue.
Worth seeing if you've never seen them before.

Been to several. Lollapalooza,cajundome,nola arena
Nola arena may have been the best...prolly cus of opening act (Godsmack).
Lollapalooza easily the worst. Seemed to lose some of the "impact" outside. CAjndome , i was close enough to get eybrows singed during "One".

I've seen them four times. Twice in 1992 (one show with Faith No More and Guns N' Roses in the dome in NOLA, the other was actually at the PMAC which may be last concert I saw there.)
Also saw them twice at he NO Arena in 2004 and 2008. Great fricking concerts, I've been to well over 100 concerts and these guys rank up in my top five. James' voice isn't what it was back in the early 90's, but the concert is so good it doesn't matter.
Having said all that I fricking hate outdoor festivals with big acts. In 1994 I made my way to the front to watch the Beastie Boys at Lollapalooza and almost got killed when they came out. Had to throw elbows for 20 minutes to get out of that crowd. frick that. I won't go this show because I hate hanging way back and watching the band on a screen. I did this with DMB at Jazz Fest a few years ago and it sucked. I like to sit close and enjoy my concerts....They'll be back soon enough.

I saw both RATM and Metallica in 1996 Lollapalooza

I've seen them twice. Lots of head bangin' and hair thrashin'... not so much moshing if that's what you want to know.
They played for almost 2 hours straight through both times and sounded PHENOMENAL. They are ears-ringin' loud as frick, too... which I know you would expect - but they are cranked up to 11. Be ready.
ETA:
Both shows I saw were outdoor shows (what used to be Starplex, now Dr. Pepper in Dallas). It's a covered/uncovered seating area (I was about 25 rows back) with a field "bowl" behind it... Sound was fine outside there. Not sure what a flat field show would be like in comparison.

Seen them 3 times and had a blast at all three. They are going to play a set with mostly older material which of course is what you want to hear. HUGE step up from Green Day.

1988 w/the Cult (Steve Jones was on guitar)

Saw them in '08 on the Death Magnetic tour. They were fricking incredible, but I have to agree that James' voice ain't what it used to be. But they played half of Death Magnetic and a bunch of stuff from their first 3 albums, plus Enter Sandman.

I saw them on the Justice tour and hated them. I went to see the Cult open for them and stayed for about twenty mins of Metallica. Not my cup of tea. I prefer hardcore punk and some indie bands. I appreciate the Metallica music but just not into to it live.
