I feel sure that Hank Williams Sr and Johnny Cash should make it.
Who are the other two?
I will also be interested in which lady gets the most mentions.

Not so sure I'd put Johnny Cash as a top 4. My list
Hank Williams
Hank Thompson
Patsy Cline
Jimmie Rodgers (the original one)

How about Hank Williams Sr, Cash, Haggard, and Loretta Lynn or Patsy Cline?

Hank Sr., Merle, Jones, Cash
This is the list imo but not my personal choice. I would replace Cash with Waylon.

Hard to argue with these. A 10 person Mt Rushmore of country music would be interesting to hear because then one has to go outside some of the obvious ones.

Looking at his influence as an artist, and as a producer/executive, Chet Atkins has a strong argument.

I think stuff like this needs to be separated more by era. You'll have some people who only put older artists on there, because they influenced a lot of the modern artists. But to me, IDK how I can leave someone with the pedigree George Strait has off a Mount Rushmore of Country if we don't separate by era/subgenre, and as much as I love the Hag idk how someone like him could make it if you have to choose just 4.
My personal Rushmore would be different and probably include Haggard, but if we are talking THE universal top 4 of country thats a different answer. For THE universal top 4, I've got
Hank Sr
Strait
and I can be convinced about several artists on the other 2 spots.

Merle #3
Probably someone earlier...maybe Jimmie Rogers?
It would be hard to not put Garth on it, being he's pretty much the face of country music to anyone under 40
Being the best selling artist of all time is a pretty good resume
