Rush - their live performances are nearly an exact replication of their studio productions, with better improvisations.

Some of their late 70's concerts, you have to listen really hard to tell the difference.

Saw Rush in 76, they showed up instead of Manford Man (thank God) to open for the Blue Oyster Cult, another band that sounds great live.

They (Rush) come on stage and say, "Manford Man couldn't make it, we've only got 40 minutes, we've got a new LP called "2112" and here it is":

Then, they proceeded to blow everyone away. BTW, the BOC light show was later banned. Those two bands back then were spectacular. Rush's light show was every bit as good as BOC's. What a freakin' combo that turned out to be and a really cool surprise.

Incubus
Porcupine tree is great live, however when I saw them at the hob in Houston the first half of the show was real bad concert wise. It was the whole cd that was basically one long instrumental song. The second half however was great and they are
A great band.

I don't know that many people dug them back in the day, but Helmet was better live than in studio, if you can believe that.

I'd like to see Porcupine Tree. I missed a chance to see them when they hit the states for the first time a couple of years ago and they were within 100 miles of me. It's good to hear they're as good or better live. They're live videos seem to indicate as much.

They are fantastic live. Gavin Harrison is quite possibly the best drummer you'll ever see live. Steven's voice is kind of average, but John Wesley makes up for it. Oh, and Colin Edwin and Richard Barbieri are no slouches.

Know why I love this board? Cause I can come in here and talk about some act like Porcupine Tree and, unlike my regular everyday life here in Baton Rouge and it's immediate environs, there's always someone who's also familiar with them. Where I live, if it's not Top 40 Pop, Modern Country, Rap, or whatever the latest generic bullshite gets played on the corporate rock radio stations, nobody's heard of them.
