A lot of bands just cannot do it live. They do not have the energy, or the editing to make them sound...well.....good. Here are my favorites who were just as good Live as they were in the studio
1) Paul McCartney - no explanation needed
2) Elton John- he came with energy and fire for "bitch is back" "crocodile rock" as well as others but when he turned it slow for "candle in the wind" or "your song" he brought everyone with him. It was slow, emotional, and great. Amazing pianist with an amazing voice
3) Bruce Springsteen- he played "thunder road" which is one of my all time classics but he made it slow and normally when an artist does this it absolutely kills the song, but bruce left a major impression with it. He also brings this energy to the stage, he did backflips and shite it was INSANE!

The Who
Ween
Arctic Monkeys
And then there is Phish, who is much better live than studio.

Bruno Mars
He's one of the few who can "perform" without lip syncing or sounding like shite

Most concerts I've been to sounded as good or better live. Tim McGraw and James Brown are the only ones I've experienced that weren't good live.

Allison Krauss and Union Station

Rush - their live performances are nearly an exact replication of their studio productions, with better improvisations.

Grand Funk
Jethro Tull
Who
Doors
All better live than in studio. Too many to name. This is one of the things that sets the classic rockers apart from any other era.

Tom Petty was the best studio to concert perfection I've seen.
Not necessarily the best concert I've seen, but sounded like listening to a greatest hits album, awesome

When did you see him ? Because back in the 60's, he had one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Amos Lee, Jack Johnson
Saw em both at the Ryman and they sounded better in there than in studio.

I saw him in 2000. I ain't knocking him for it, he was pretty darn old when I saw him.

Some of their late 70's concerts, you have to listen really hard to tell the difference.
