Many may not care for the music they made, but Toto contained an absolutely amazing lineup of musicians. Jeff Porcaro was without doubt one of the best drummers around. Steve Lukather is a super talented guitarist. All the musicians in that group were seasoned studio guys. They were "A" call guys. Super talented all around.
Was coming to post this. Not crazy about their style of music, but if we're talking about pure ability, they're a tough collection to beat...

Pete Townshend is a great songwriter, a terrific guitar player and a fine singer. I'll give them the nod over Led Zeppelin because for my money Townshend wrote better songs than Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
While agree that on average LZ was better in the studio and The Who was better live, but,
It's a complete toss-up for my favorite live concert video between The Who's 1979 rockumentary The Kids Are Alright and Led Zeppelin How the West Was Won and Queen Live Aid

Zappa and the Mothers had some great versions
This. Plus my ultimate test for this sort of question is how did they sound live and they sounded amazing.

Zeppelin had fantastic live shows, but since they typically played without a net, there were undoubtedly gonna be some duds along the way (not to mention Page's condition near the end of their career, but that's another story). Just like many solid improv-style live acts, their fans are more willing to tolerate the lows b/c when they reach the highs, they slam it out of the park. IMO Zeppelin gets too much of a bad rap.
Man, I hope you're talking about ALL of the live footage on The Kids Are Alright and not just the footage they recorded for the movie, because Moon was a borderline trainwreck on those "new" performances. Still a great movie 'tho...
No arguing about Queen and Live Aid, but I still think their Montreal DVD is criminally underrated. The crowd is a bit subdued, but the band was playing like their hair was on fire

In their prime, Little Feat had a collection of great players.

Rush has talented musicians, but they’re just not my thing. Pretty white bread to me. And Getty’s voice comes close to nails on a blackboard after While. They do cram a lot of notes into a very few minutes, if you like that sort of thing.

Absolutely. Lowell George spent some time playing in Zappa's band, and I suspect he learned from that experience. Bill Payne in particular was tremendous on keyboard.

It has become almost fashionable to shite on the RHCPs, but musically Flea is a great bass player, and Chad Smith is another one of my favorite drummers.
And then they guitar player is sorta a toss up. They’ve had a few.

Lyrically they're hard to top in their genre.

Rush, though hard to argue against The Who or Led Zeppelin.

Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift
I'm so confused.

True, and Richie Hayward was a hell of a drummer.

Alison Krauss and Union Station
This is my #1; it's insane the amount of talent in that band.
