Dr Dre is the single most over-rated "musician" in history. He is an excellent executive producer, but what the frick has he done since Scott Storch, Mike Elizondo and all his other "studio musicians" (read: ghost writers) left and went solo? The answer is nothing. At all. That Detox album has been delayed for seven (going on 8) years because he cant write a decent beat by himself. He needs someone else to write it for him so he can take credit.

That is a loaded question. There are different aspects to consider. Some peoples genius is as a songwriter or composer. Others are geniuses as lyricists or arrangers. While others are geniuses for their performances on instruments or as vocalists. For recorded music you have to consider producers who can be as critical as the performers themselves. Each category has people I would consider geniuses, and they are not limited by style of music. Listing them all would take forever.

In terms of musical theory and composition, he's considered as good as ever lived. Experts say being a prodigy composer is far rarer than being a "genius" performer.
