When I was really young, they just about kept it between John Prine, Van Morrison, and Jimmy Buffett. I still listen to all of them, but am only proud of two of them.

I listened to everything by the time I was 16, from the latest pop music (including this new fangled thing called "rap"), to all the hair and death metal you could stand. Being a band geek, I also had my fair share of classical music that I listened to for enjoyment, not because I had to. Growing up, my mom always played Jimmy Buffett, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel, Bette Midler, and Janis Joplin, so I had an early appreciation for them as well. My dear old grandpa gave me a strong dose of 1970s WYNK, so every time I hear Red Sovine or Hank Williams Sr., I think about him.
