There are alot of solid singers in this thread and a couple great ones.
I hate Dave Matthews with a passion, but i have to assume he is one of the most successful horrible singers.
I dont like any artists who are "bad" singers. I dont consider Dylan, Nelson, Petty, Cash, etc to be bad singers. They have unique voices which is what makes them awesome.
If those are bad singers then I'm amazed that Brian Johnson hasn't been mentioned more.
Him and Axel Rose. By the standards in this thread and the people mentioned I'm surprised Jagger and Tyler havent been mentioned.

i get what you're saying....but speaking for me only, i just asked myself "as much as i like these singers, would any of them make it past the first round of ________ (insert TV singing competition)?" most likely not....

That's my point. Almost every singer in almost every band i listen too isnt a classically "good" singer. If i had to guess Plant and maybe Mercury are the only guys who might make it out of one of those shows.
There are what? 2 actually successful people who came out of all of those singing shows combined? on how many seasons if you combine Idol, X factor, talent, etc...
Clarkson and Underwood are the only ones i can think of. Clarkson has a good voice live (Endymion last year) though i cant stand her music and Underwood is drop dead knockout gorgeous with a solid voice as well. I'll see her this year at Endymion.

yep. it could be easier to spin this off into a who are the relatively technically sound rock/pop/alt/college/punk singers? (as in hits notes cleanly, good tone and phrasing, little/no diphthongizing...)
