Regrettably I don't know a lot about solo Dave Alvin, but The Blasters is one of the greatest cowpunk albums, in fact one of my favorite albums of the '80s

But still I am beginning to agree with what was mentioned earlier, there is a huge drop off after the first 6-8 bands or so. I feel like the genre could have been much more, as there are 50 unappreciated songs surrounded by album after album of lazy cowshit.

This thread has reminded me of Uncle Tupelo, Reckless Kelly, Whiskey Myers, and Son Volt though. Much obliged.

Not sure if these guys were mentioned earlier... as time goes by, they keep climbing higher and higher on my list of favorites in this, or any, genre. Unfortunately, they rarely tour and when they do it's usually up in the Pacific NW (out of Portland).. So, Ive only been able to catch them once up there..

Willy Vlautin (singer/guitar) is also a pretty accomplished writer... his books are very good, too..
