He is now.
Well, most 70 year old dudes who have been singing for 50 years have voices that went to shite. Geoff Tate for instance.

He is nasally on not everyone’s taste.
To say he can’t sing is just wrong. The guy has amazing pitch. Hits every note right in the middle.

I ask you to give an honest assessment of this performance and tell me Robert Plant can't sing. And this is when he was pushing 60

How in the world has this gotten to page three without a single mention of Cherilyn Sarkisian, a/k/a CHER. Jesus Christ how she ever gained any popularity as a singer is beyond me. Absolutely horrendous.

Jimmy Buffett and Kris Kristopherson
But I am YUGE fan of both of them.

Hes one of those guys that, yeah he's bad, but he fits the band perfectly. He's 2nd best singer in the band though.

Gary Lewis from Gary Lewis and the Playboys
You would think he sucks if it was a middle school talent show.
This might be the worst vocals I’ve ever heard on an album.
LINK
And I still like the band because the songs are good.

How has no one mentioned Lou Reed yet.
The Velvet Underground is unquestionably bad music and he’s the cause of that audio equivalent of The Trail of Tears

Stupid to make a list of people whose voices have deteriorated with age. David Bowie had a 3.58 octave range - better than Freddie Mercury.

Really other than Rod Stewart, Gregg Allman, Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers, Van Morrison, Roger Daltry and anyone who sang in The Band or the Beach Boys there aren't a whole lot of great "singers" in rock and roll. A lot of great "vocalists" but not so much "singers." By singer I mean voice alone, range being able to actually hit notes, etc. By vocalist I mean performer where stage presence, charisma, attitude, etc. all play a part of the accessment. You can tie a great singer to a chair with duct tape and their voice is all they need to entertain you. A great performer needs freedom of movement to entertain you.
I also just focused on males here because whereas the ratio of good male singers to the history of rock and roll is not that impressive the ratio of good female singers to the history of rock and roll is. Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Maria McKee, Tori Amos, and Grace Potter all come to mind immediately which is pretty good when you consider the male to female lead singer ratio in rock and roll has to be something around 40 or 50 to 1.
To actually answer the question though listening to Billy Corgan is like listening to a box of hamsters be dumped into a wood chipper.
