Eddie Vedder or James Hetfield, and why?

It's definitely a close argument IMO, but I'm going to have to go with Eddie Vedder because I feel like he's a far greater percentage of the band's persona and public perception. Whereas Kirk and Lars and James seem to share a relatively more equal share of that.

What say you?

Hetfield

Pearl Jam was a band (roughly) before Ed joined.

Good one.

Hetfield, IMO. I could see Pearl Jam continuing without Vedder, but I think Metallica would dissolve immediately without Hetfield.

Hetfield is more important.
If Vedder left Pearl Jam for whatever reason they could always get the Mexican eddie vedder to replace him:

Tough call, I think both are vital due to their voice and presence alone.

Hetfield >>>>>>>>>>>>> Vedder

Hetfield is a top notch rhythm guitarist

Vedder is not.

That's really all there is to it.

Hetfield by far.

But his bassists Cliff Burton and of course the best bassist ever Jason Newsted made him look like a complete bitch. His voice after the AJFA album for some reason didn't appeal to many people but I think that was his best voice.

He is a dick though no doubt. He was a bad drinker and along with Lars was very power hungry during the Load-Reload years. He and Lars are my least favorite of that band.

Lars is the biggest cocksucker in music.

I like Vedder more but I feel Hetfield makes Metallica where Vedder is a part of Pearl Jam.

They are both pretty synonymous with their respective bands... It would be pretty hard to determine and will probably fall right on the same line as if you'd asked which one is your favorite band...

Hetfield is about 75% of Metallica with Lars being 24.5% and Hammett being .5%. Look at the writing credits for their first five albums, its almost all Hetfield/Ulrich or just Hetfield. One of the main reasons Newsted quit is because he couldn't have any creative input. Hammett knows his place and seems contempt to shut up and play whatever Hetfield writes for him.

They have both been together too long and done too much. Pearl Jams drummer = Metallica bassist. They have been and can continue to be replaced. After 20+ years for each band. They both fold if their lead singers go.

Kirk or Lars leave it is time to step aside.

Stone, Jeff, or mike? Same thing.
