Solos don't do it for me, and I don't give two shits about technical mastery. That's fodder for music snobs.

What I do appreciate is a guitarist who uses his guitar to the end of making great songs. And Lindsey Buckingham brings the goods in that respect.

This one, for example, is a favorite of mine:
I know I'm not wrong (Lindsey's Song #1)

LB is the man! Great rhythm chops, plays the right notes when he solos and can string some chords together to make up timely songs. In my top 20.

Always liked -
where he did this little ditty Django which led into these two Races Are Run and Lola (My Love).

Saw an interview where he described himself as a self taught primitive, which I've always thought summed him up pretty good. Because tasteful is always better than hey look at me flash.

ETA: better version lola - live- because live always better if you can.

He's completely self taught, which often works out as a positive as I see it. Guys who are self-taught necessarily end up with a style that is all their own.

Also, has there ever been, in all of recorded history, a greater discrepancy between youthful and middle-aged attractiveness than Stevie Nicks?

Not only did she go from angelic exuder of sex appeal to actively repulsive thing that instantly ends any erection in a 500 ft radius, she did it seemingly overnight.

At no point in the 70s was Stevie Nicks something other than a sex goddess. The majority of reasonable men would have made significant sacrifices for even a single buggering.

And then as early as the mid 80s she had already crossed over into "wouldn't bang her with a random homeless guy's dick and his back-alley blowjobs-for-crack hooker girlfriend pushing". These pictures are from 1985 and 1986.

I say: no there has never been a female who has made such a dramatic transition with such astonishing speed? I say no there hasn't.

And of course now she's just like violently repulsive. I won't even post a pic because I don't wanna ruin people's day.

The video for "Stand Back" was the end of her hotness.

She went with the Tina Tiurner look of the day after that. With neon and spandex.

She peaked in 1981 on The White Wing Dove Tour. Youtube it. So beautiful, and such great performances, including the unreleased "Gold and Braid" and an awesome piano/vocal intro to "Rhiannon", which is not my favorite song. It's a top concert film.

That's how my dad would put it. I guess that's how I'd put it as well.

Check out this interview from 1978. LINK

And then check out this interview from 1983. LINK

I mean, that's a solid 3 point drop on a 10 point scale....in 5 years. What the hell were you doing, Stevie? Oh that's right, you were doing an almost historically unprecedented amount of drugs. That does help explain things.

Rhiannon is one of my "meh" songs on the radio but this live version is the best they looked or performed. Look for other songs from this Midnight Special to see Lindsey's extremely rare use of a pic with a Stratocaster on Over My Head. He has such a unique style even with his string tunings so he's hard to copy. He's got like a dozen Taylors all tuned different for certain songs during a concert.

Cool bit of info that I recently found out. Lindsey and Stevie stayed in Birmingham quite a bit before joining FM as her sister lived here apparently during this time. Their solo album got heavy airplay in town so they played to sold out concerts at Boutwell and in Tuscaloosa while being unknown in the rest of the country. Stevie was quoted saying that they had the option of moving to B'ham full time or joining Fleetwood Mac. Guess they chose wisely although they may have remained a couple while running a local music store or recording studio if they had chosen to come here.

Birmingham wasn't the only southern town which "got" Buckingham Nicks. Thanks to heavy airplay on heritage AOR FM station WZZQ, B-N was quite popular during my high school days over in Jackson, MS. Pretty sure I saw them in the (Jackson) Auditorium at least once.

The amount of Clapton hate on this board is amazing, incomprehensible and unjustified.

Name another guitarist that can pull together ~40 preeminent guitarists for a benefit concert every 4 to 5 years. They come simple out of respect for Clapton.

Still trying? You can't because there are none.
