Crazy. It would make a nice documentary of why these types left the biz.

It’s usually because of money and stability. Very few artists consistently make enough money to live on, touring life really sucks unless you’re like a god tier arena artist, and it’s impossible to raise a family playing 180 shows a year. It’s a true grind with crazy boom bust cycles, and it’s not something sustainable long term for the overwhelming majority of people, even professional musicians.

I met Elvis Costello's bass player - or drummer, I really don't remember which - at a bistro in Paris. I asked him what that's like financially, could he make a living, etc. He just said, "It's month to month, man. Just tryin' to pay the rent." I've played in local bands for years and know I would never be cut out for that life. It's a calling (or obsession, don't know which).

That one guy rested his arm on the TOP of a pitch fork

I’m
No professional but shouldn’t it be flipped around

Bill Berry.

LOL.

I drove by his place today on the way to Athens for a craft show. He's living the dream. After having a stroke on tour, he called it quits and lives the simple life.

Bill Berry actually suffered a ruptured aneurysm on stage and collapsed. Amazing that he lived.

Good to see he's doing well.

Terry Chimes ("Tory Crimes") was good but Topper Headon was really awesome and a memorable part of the Clash.

You could add White Lion guitarist Vito Bratta to the list. He left the music business forty years ago and no one seems to know what he does now. There's also Dream Theater's original keyboardist Kevin Moore who is a practicing psychiatrist.

Didn't Vito have to take care of his sick father for quite a while?

I knew about DeGarmo and Spitz.

Yeah, he was the caregiver for his ailing parents when he left White Lion. But that only goes so far, he disappeared completely. I guess he invested well and has no interest in returning to the music business. A shame, really, because he's a phenomenal guitar player.
