Arcade Fire is today's Sonic Youth.
No, just no.

Of course Arcade Fire isn't Sonic Youth. Arcade Fire actually puts on a good live show.

And now it's (somehow) happened to the great Arcade Fire
There is nothing great about Arcade Fire...

Kid A is often cited as their best work
OK Computer is routinely hailed as among the best albums of all time. Maybe things have changed since I last looked (a long time ago) at those types of lists

certainly more so than The Bends
There is a quite vocal group that think they peaked at Bends.

In Rainbows is also thought of as a masterpiece
It is brilliant and rightly adored. It is also their return to basics album and the most Bends like.
Amnesiac and Hail to Thief are both thought to be sub par works (I like Amnesiac much more than Kid A and Hail is good, though much better live). If Arcade Fire returned to Funeral type anthems, I would bet they would be “hip" "important" or whatever again

None of those 3 were ever cool.

Unforgettable Fire kicked arse.

It happened to U2 between Zooropa and Pop (my favorit U2 album).
And for good reason.

Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Rattle and Hum were all great. I could not identify with the "Lemon" and "Batman Soundtrack" U2.
*Personally, I never liked anything Radiohead did after The Bends (an incredible album). I use Radiohead, because I know little of Coldplay, but also feel they are in this category.
Arcade Fire...maybe three songs I like. It's not to hate on purpose and they are talented, but they just are not my thing. I'd rate them, all time, somewhere between Rainbow and The Fixx (about 4,500 on the list of best all-time).

While U2 hit a peak with Joshua Tree and lasted through Rattle and Hum and, maybe, Achtung Baby, they are still a terrific band. shite, I actually liked No Line on the Horizon a lot. frick the haters.
Coldplay? A nice, fun pop band, imo. Nothing earth shattering in terms of innovation or artistry, but a solid pop band that actually acknowledges it is Radiohead "light".
Arcade Fire? I wasn't in college when they broke out, so . . . But I like Funeral okay and, I guess, The Suburbs. I thought they were entertaining live. I've listened to one or two songs from Reflektor and haven't been enticed to listen to more.
The thing is that all three bands have talent. They still have an audience that enjoys them. Who gives a frick if they're "cool" or not?

Coldplay has some great albums but their latest one gets a thumbs down from me.
Oh and people need to stop bringing up Radiohead in this thread. Thom Yorke doesn't deserve to be disrespected like that.
