Everything That Glitters is definitely up there in the saddest category as well. people dont really think of it as sad, but if you have little girls, man it's tough.

quote:

Little Casey, she's still growing, and she's started asking questions And there's certain things a man just doesn't know

And she still asks about you all the time
And I guess we never even cross your mind

Her birthday came and you never even called
I guess we never cross your mind at all

Everybody said you'd make it big someday
And I guess that we were only in your way

Not Nashville County, but I'll put The Bird Hunters by Turnpike Troubadours up against any song.

That entire album was on point.

The real answer is "Ring of Fire".

Ring of Fire doesn't even crack the top fifty (maybe not even the top hundred) and is only one step above a novelty song.

The answer to the OP is not subjective, and the correct answer is Dixieland Delight by Alabama.

Edited to add that Fishing in the Dark could be a contender

A couple things

This thread is about songs not artists. But saying Tracy Lawrence was greater than King George is like saying Clyde Drexler was better than Jordan.

I get it Clyde is in the HOF. But Jordan transcended the game. So did strait. king George is called king George for a reason. He’s got 50 songs in the level of Tracy Lawrence’s best one. George released 11 straight number one hits 86-89. From “Nobody in his right mind” thru to “ace in the hole”. If they had still had b side songs he would have had b side #1s. Comparing them at all is silliness. If you go a little further back from 83-89 he released 21 singles. 17 were #1 hits. The four that weren’t?

The Cowboy Rides Away
The Fireman
You’re something special to me
And (I think) the 2nd most voted song for greatest ever in this thread
Amarillo By Morning

That being said. Amarillo by Morning is not my fav rodeo man song by him. I like I Can Still Make Cheyenne better. But Amarillo is historic.

No one has said Ocean Front Property.
Alabama had some bangers too.
Lady Down on Love
Feels so right
My homes in Alabama
Take me down
Close enough to perfect
Dixieland delight
The closer you get
Mountain music
Old flame
When we make love
Tennessee river

I could just listen to George strait and Alabama for a year.

Probably already said but Friends In Low Places might literally be the greatest country song of all time as far as notoriety and basic country lyrics, regardless of how people feel about Garth.
Hell, Mark Chesnutt recorded it the same year he did, though way different

Friends in low places fricking sucks. Id take Achy Breaky fricking Heart over FILP
