Also: to throw my 2 cents in there: whoever is responsible for taking good bands and turning their music to shite can DIAF. I don't know if it's the label or the managers or what. This is the problem with music today if you ask me. Prime examples are Gary Clark Jr. and Black Keys.
I don't know much about the examples that you give. The situation that you are describing, however, is that artists generally change over time. They are going to do different things in different albums. Staying the same would be stagnant and boring.
Some "purists" will get upset over this because it isn't the same exact thing that they heard when they started liking the artist. Sometimes the artist will take a mistep or maybe just something that doesn't fit the taste of an established fanbase. This is the risk that must be taken to evolve and try something new.
Although, it probably does happen that sometimes the artists get bad advice from studios and labels, I think that it is closed minded to assume this just because you don't like the direction that the music is going.

He has the worst tone by far, it sounds like a 1974 CB Radio that has been rained on, then dried out in a microwave.
Horrible on guitar? I'm not sure anyone that knows anything about playing guitar would agree with you.

Every friend of mine that plays, agrees with me.

The guy played the guitar upside fricking down. That's like a normal right handed pitcher learning how to throw a 95 mph fastball left handed
No, it isn't. He still played lefty, he just didn't have a left handed guitar. He learned from the beginning of his career how to play it that way. In theory it isn't any different than learning to play guitar.
You're talking about a left handed pitcher throwing it righty. That isn't a good analogy at all. I don't know that there is a good analogy at all. If you want to stick with baseball it would be like if a golden glove winner played with a left handed glove on their right hand.
Jimmy Page is better.
ETA: Also, lots of guitar players put the guitar behind their backs and above their heads and such. Parlor tricks.

I can totally understand an artist wanting to stay fresh in the eyes of listeners. I can appreciate that.
And I'm sure that's the case with some of it. But I can't recall how many times I've heard a new group live, and rush to buy their album only to find out it's completely different. That's why I said that the original direction of the music I suspect is being tampered with by the label to appeal to the masses.
I heard Jake Smith live at Jazzfest a few years back and he rocked it. Then I bought his album (which was produced by Christian singer/songwriter Michael W. Smith) and it was nothing but crappy pop music.

You left off my favorite:

I appreciate the aesthetic value of a lot of those venues pictured... but most of the time, for my money... I prefer a good ol' 200 capacity bar show... up close and personal..
My favorite venue is probably Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon... a little nicer than what I mentioned above, but small, intimate and great sound..
These pics probably make it look bigger than it actually is

You have no clue about any sort of music theory if you think this is true. One of your dumb arse friends said this and you're repeating their bullshite.

Jack White has some of the best tone in mainstream rock. That is a fact.

Some people don't care for outdoor/festival settings.
Far less intimate.

Phil and Friends with Trey and Joan Osborne (2 nights in a row)
Also, sadly enough I saw Britney there. I was 13, my friend's birthday. He is gay, loved her.

I miss the old 9:30 Club. I mean, times change and all, but that place had personality. It also smelled like sweat and dried blood... nothing is perfect. The old 9:30 Club as the kind of place you felt like you needed a tetanus shot just by walking past it.

Jack White is one of the best musicians/performers of the last 10 years and is an amazing musician who has great tone and is highly original in his taste for songwriting in the blues genre.
I want to think you are trolling, but I sadly know you aren't.

My two favorite places I've seen a show were:
Mew at Richard's on Richards in Vancouver, BC (this was not long before it closed)
Bruce Hornsby and Bela Fleck at Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City. I was there on business and had some friends in town. The great thing is, you didn't have to buy tickets. We loaded an ice chest with high point microbrews and hiked up the side of the mountain next to it. You could sit "up the hill" and enjoy for free with cheap, high quality beer. They have since fenced that area off to stop it, but I got to enjoy it:
