It’s like they just took the bass fader and pulled it all the way down.

Funny, because that’s kinda what happened per Lars:

“No, it wasn't intentional. Justice… was the James and Lars show from beginning to end, but it wasn’t, ‘frick this guy – let’s turn his bass down.’ It was more like, ‘We're mixing, so let's pat ourselves on the back and turn the rhythms and the drums up.’ But we basically kept turning everything else up until the bass disappeared.”

Apparently, they (James and Lars) made records that way from the beginning.

The Replacements - Don't Tell a Soul

Chris Lord-Alge really fricked up the mix... Paul hated it..

The Matt Wallace mixes, from Dead Man's Pop box set, are how they should be heard... Wallace produced the record..

I also have to add Sturgill Simpson - Sound & Fury. It may be a decent album, but I absolutely cannot listen to it. I swear they found a way to mix nails on a chalkboard into it.

I love that album but I get it. There’s only one way to listen to that album for it to make sense ………loud as frick.

I'm probably going to start a separate thread on this song because of the Rick Beato video I just watched otherwise it never would have crossed my mind but whoever mixed the Christopher Cross guitar solo at the end of Ride Like the Wind should have their tongue plugged into an amplifier. You literally can't hear more than five percent of the entire solo due to the horns and Michael MacDonald's back up vocals drowning everything else out but if you listen only the guitar track it is amazing.

Another one I never noticed, and I listen to two of those songs pretty regularly.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions-Armed Forces.

Some great songs, but it's really overproduced

This was the first album he put out that was multi layered with a lot of overdubbing.

What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding sound like a car crash.
