Was Matchbox Twenty ever a good band?

I thought YOSLY and Mad Season were good albums. After that, just terrible.
What's the board's opinion?

They're the dad rock version of Nickleback.

I'm not trying to hate on them. As I stated in the OP, I thought their first 2 albums were great. Everything after that just sucked IMO.

id qualify them as one of those groups that was a decent album, not a good band.

They're okay. Like you said a couple good albums, the rest so so.

I liked them a lot in the 90s. They're nostalgic for me.

They had an album named that? Or are you thinking of the self title album from the Seattle band project? Pearl Jam guys and AIC guys?
Their first album was really good IMO. But quickly became fluff. Hell maybe the first album was fluff, but I liked it?

first album was on constant rotation for me in high school. they were in the 6 disk rotation in my truck along with weezer, third eye blind, blink 182, and bush.
there was also a greater than zero chance that you would hear them while shopping at American Eagle, Abercrombie, or Gap during the late 90s/early 2000s.

They have a handful of songs that are infectious. I think Rob Thomas was and is a talented guy who is probably underrated as a musician. His project with Carlos Santana a while back was good.

They were enjoyable, on a par with S Club 7 and Sixpence None the Richer.

Yourself or someone like you was the best album of the 90s. Along with cracked read view.

Played several of their tracks in my lsu days. Mad Season was probably my favorite tracks of theirs.

Boring, safe as milk band your parents could get into.

Back to Good was a song I liked. Wasn't much into anything else.
Good pop/rock band.

They definitely were back in the day, but indeed I was only 8 when the album came out.
