Because I went to my first Phish concert last Sunday!! Here is the opening song from the 3rd show at The Wharf in Orange Beach.

While I don't know a lot of Phish songs , I do know a great band when I hear one.

We’ve come full circle on the music board. Need the phish threads back whether you love them or hate them.

It was just so nice to go to a concert with live, and I mean live, music. Again, I am not really a fan and knew virtually none of the songs but to hear 4 guys make the sound they make was awesome and fun time.

Also, their fans are a trip!

I force myself to listen on SiriusXM and I’m familiar with many of their songs by now. My impression is the same as many

1) those frickers can play and write a melody
2) they put on the best live show of anyone, maybe ever
3) no band in the history of bands needs a competent lyricist more than phish does

I called that opener and was fricking pumped when they busted it out. That was a fun weekend.

Glad you enjoyed your first show. I've been seeing them for 25 years and was there all 3 nights and had a good time. They played really well.

You know you've got a large catalog when as of last night they have played 6 shows on this run:
116 songs total and only 2 repeats

It's not for everyone but they can play

Man, we saw JRAD last night at Red Rocks and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Just amazing.
Yea Phish is great too. Saw them in Arkansas last summer. Probably my 50-60 th show. Honestly don’t know. Lost count 20 years ago.

When I read the second point you made, I concluded you never saw Prince perform live. Am I right?

I get that too. The BIL I brought wasn’t wowed as much as me. However, as a guitar player it not hard to for me to understand how good he is and how tight the band is.

I don't like any of it, but the guy can play the hell out of a guitar.

I can say the same thing about Malmsteen.

it was awesome

phish does not put on *that* kind of live show. They do it with superior musicianship and a deep emotional bond with the audience. They also have probably the most intense and creative lighting rig ever devised. It’s not a showbiz spectacle like prince, it’s an immersive musical experience unlike (and yes, better than) anyone else has done, likely ever. The Dead laid out the template for that and phish has refined it to the point where they never have a mediocre show.

it’s really and truly remarkable and they don’t really get the acclaim for that that they should

I still can't believe they both played in Alabama over Memorial Day weekend. Their management teams should have coordinated that better

End-to-end, Alabama is a big state. Atlanta to Nashville is 100 miles closer than Huntsville to Mobile.

^^^ All of this.

I’m on my way home from a 5 show run (OBA & Charleston). Probably doing Dick’s over Labor Day.

Started in ‘91. I guess I’ve done around 130 or so…I don’t count them.

Phish is the most continuously and consistently creative band around.

Every year the up the ante on themselves.

Orange Beach is a 5hr drive from Bham. Would have required a hotel room to do Phish. Huntsville is an hour and a half. Drive back after WSP. that's what we decided to do. Not to mention that me and my daughter saw Phish last summer at Oak Mountain. I haven't seen WSP in 4yrs..

I love Phish and have for 20+ yrs.

This is so true. I laugh my arse off at the people who complain about their new songs.

You complain about Blaze On or Soul Planet but love Contact or BBFCFM.

For those new to phish, BBFCFM means Big Black Furry Creature From Mars

I thought Tom Marshall did descent with Billy breathes, ghost, farmhouse, and round room.

For me, the new songs since Trey got sober have much more depth in the lyrics

I agree. Take Joy for an example.

My wife hates everything Phish but loves that song.
