What a tragedy.
Great songwriter in my favorite band of all time.
RIP Walter Becker. You brought this person hours and hours of pleasure over the last 35 years.

Walter Becker, guitarist, bassist and co-founder of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band Steely Dan, died Sunday at the age of 67.

Becker's official site announced the death; no cause of death or other details were provided.

Becker missed Steely Dan's Classic East and West concerts in July as he recovered from an unspecified ailment. "Walter's recovering from a procedure and hopefully he'll be fine very soon," his bandmate Donald Fagen told Billboard. Becker's doctor advised the guitarist not to leave his Maui home for the performances.
RIP Walter

Wow, feel like I got kicked in the nuts. Never saw that one coming. Becker did miss the Classic East and West shows last month (July) due to an unspecified illness. SD could easily be one of the best concerts/bands I've seen live. Extremely tight and they killed it every time.

I think Steely Dan will continue to tour since they've been playing 45 - 60 shows the last couple of years. Jon Herington or Larry Carlton will carry on for Becker. The next few days will be spent listening to Aja, Pretzel Logic, Can't Buy a Thrill, Katy Lied, Gaucho, Countdown to Ecstasy, etc... . RIP Mr Becker

This blows. More than ever, I feel blessed to have seen the Dan in concert a couple of times. The stereo's gonna be on a Steely Dan loop today, for sure...

Anything I can say would be trite considering the personal enormity of the loss of Walter Becker. So I will just say Thank You, Walter for your near - unparalleled brilliance and giving me 40+ years of joy . RIP.

Fagan response

After reading this, it looks like Fagan had written this days in advance and probably knew his friend was going to pass soon..

RIP to 1/2 of one my favorite all time bands...

Steely Dan on Spotify all day today.

Sad a great band and songs that still mean as much to me today as they did the first time I heard them.

Man, tough one. I never really thought about him too much, but when he leaves one realizes how much he meant and what a hole he leaves.

What a band. Fagen continuing is really good news and he becomes a must see if you haven't seen SD before.

Take care Walter. You are already missed.

RIP

First introduced to their album in 1973 when double-dating to a prom on a Memphis steamboat.

Let's hear from both:
