Underrated 80s bands/solo acts

I'm talking about groups/solo acts that may have been commercially successful but didn't seem to get the critical acclaim or acts that had only 1 or 2 big hits in America but had several hits overseas.
I always thought Simple Minds was a fantastic band. People obsessed over their hit "Don't you forget about me" because it was the theme song for the movie The Breakfast Club but they had other songs that were better imho.

EBNOZN had one hit. There album was nothing like their hit. It was actually pretty good.
I would add Dexy's Midnight Runners, Midnight Oil, Big Country, DEvo,

Good call on Squeeze and Midnight Oil. "Tempted" by Squeeze got all the airplay but Hour Glass and Black Coffee in Bed were even better songs.

My big three were mentioned:
Crowded House, Midnight Oil, and the Replacements. All were great, great bands.

Warrant had great, mature stuff once the conpany let them out of their glam box.
I'll be laughed at, proving that they are underrated.
Second The Cult.
I feel New Order is viewed too narrowly.

Probably my favorite "80's" band...although they got critical acclaim by the gobs. Rolling Stone once said they were the best songwriting team since Lennon/McCartney. Saw them at Tipitina's around 1990...awesome!
My favorite two "underrated" bands are Haircut 100 and Aztec Camera.
Nick Heyward of Haircut and Roddy Frame of AC also put out some good solo stuff later.
I still listen to all of these bands.

I love Echo and the Bunnymen more as the years go on.

Concrete Blond was another good group similar to Romeo Void. "Joey" and "Bloodletting" were great songs.

Drivin N Cryin - never understood why they weren't bigger. They had a lot of the ingredients to be good.
Lead singer with a distinctive voice - Check
Great guitarist and a good overall sound - Check
Well written songs - Check.
I think they unfortunately got caught up in the hair band downfall although they weren't ever that type of band.
Oingo Boingo - Don't laugh. They were known for "Weird Science" and a little less for "Dead Man's Party" but they had another very good under the radar song with "Stay". Heard that song one day on XM 1st Wave and couldn't get it out of my head.

Split Endz was a GREAT band that was overshadowed by Crowded House.

Someone made a thread about these guys a month or so ago, and I had heard a song or two of theirs before. Died Pretty. Crossed over to the 90's as well.

Testament...although they formed in the late 80s. Great metal band. I look at them on the same level as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Priest, etc.
