Weird comparison. Those two really don't have anything in common. I'll go with Type O just because NIN fell off a cliff after The Fragile.

NIN

Not close in comparison though. NIN was something completely new. I don’t mind Type O but they’re more of a Danzig 2.0

Pretty unrelated bands, but even though NIN may be “better” I’ll take Type O everyday and twice on Sunday.

Not really considering Kraftwerk and Ministry already existed.

Why are you comparing a heavy rock/metal (evolved from punk ala Steele's prior band) versus NIN? Let's compare Guns N Roses and Nirvana then.

Type O Negative just because they were entertaining as hell...even though your comparison has no merit.

Yeah, not really a one to one comparison.

NIN is great and I've been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine, but Type O Negative is about as good as it gets.

If I had to pick only one its Type O, no question

Strange comparison, like apples and oranges, but NIN all day long! I've never been able to really get into Type O Negative.

While they weren't "completely new," NIN was most certainly revolutionary. Reznor took industrial music and brought orchestration and melody to it. I look at NIN and their importance to industrial the way I do Metallica and thrash. Both genres of music were fun and had a strong following, but both of those bands took those styles and revolutionized it with orchestration and melody.

To the OP, I don't really compare these two. NIN is industrial, whereas TypeO was goth metal. Both are good, but NIN was exceptional and withstood the test of time. Reznor always expanded his sound, while TypeO rehashed theirs with each record. I enjoy all of TO's work, but I think they are more in the realm of Rammstein (industrial metal, like Ministry) in that they found what worked and stuck to it.

Oh yeah, RIP Peter Steele. 10 years gone
