1. Which genre did Nirvana give birth to? None, MTV coined the term grunge to Nirvana and it got popular.
2. Which genre did Nirvana kill? Hair metal.

by many?
Very, very few people call The Beatles overrated. And those that are doing it know jack shite about music and history. Even people who don't like them at least respect them and give them lots of credit for what they did. But to call them overrated is just laughable. Those people must be the big Nickelback or Lady Gaga fans.

The Beatles are not overrated, they have the most hits and the most record sales of ANYONE IN HISTORY! On top of that their music is still popular and enjoys a good bit radio play after approximately 50 years! The Black Crowes
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Alice In Chains
Green Day
Guns N' Roses

Exactly. I am not a huge Beatles fan but I think I understand how good they were. And how huge! They started like NKOTB as just a boy band. Low and behold they had real talent. Like bluegrass music. It may not be your thing, but try to play it. Same with the Beatles. Try to sing Imagine (not Beatles only Lennon I know) or Let it Be or Yesterday. While playing piano!!
My 90's list is
Pearl Jam.. To leave them out of the list is foolish. They still play and still put out relevant songs (Just Breathe)
Alice in Chains
Chilli Peppers
Metallica... Black album was huge. All while grunge was taking hold.
Soundgarden
STP.

MTV did not coin the term "grunge". Sub Pop did. You know... Nirvana's original label. Of course, they were talking about Mudhoney, but what you gonna do? But MTV clearly did not invent the term grunge.

ozzy. while ozzy didnt release any great albums during this period, he introduced ozzfest and he had the greatest touring band that he has ever played with. ozzy, wylde, geezer, catronova on drums and rick wakeman on keys. i never saw them during this time, but the live videos i have seen are unbelievable. rick wakeman and zakk wylde together. craziness.
