Yup and Puscifer is independent of any record label... He does TOOL, makes great music, and uses that to fund his two other projects (Caduceus Wines and Puscifer)

I respect him because he does what he wants. He's a hot commodity for his abilities. Billy with APC has stated he'd love more of his time because he has lots of material that could use Maynard's lyrics and vocal work. Tool needs the same. The man pursues what interests him the most, and because of that his work has artistic merit.

When a person loses their passion for something it most certainly affects the quality.

Jambi, The Pot, and Right in Two were lyrically up there with everything else.

I don't think it had affected the music one bit.

I agree, other than the speed at which it is produced.
Hell, Danny, Justin, and Adam have been actively jamming/composing for 2yrs or more. If all hints are correct, Maynard just started getting stuff to begin putting lyrics to late last year

Thats what I have been reading. After Anemia and the wait that we had until Lateralus it seem clear that TOOL albums would be a wait.
Worth it of course... but this 8 years now is something I'd never come to expect. I figure 2012 they drop an album just cause its 2012(the world is ending man).
If they are indeed waiting for Maynard to come in and throw lyrics down then this just feeds into all the previous stated things about him that people don't like.
I am 100% certain it will be a blown away great album. Can't Wait(although we have to)

He doesn't need to come in anywhere... They can easily send him the recordings and he can compose lyrics at his home in Arizona or on the road touring with Puscifer.
He actually made a comment a few months back in an interview, which is very rare. His comment was something to the extent of "I give the guys their space to compose and when they are ready for me, they will send me something"

Yes. I decided to edit because its not cool to hate on bands that others obviously like.

Wings for Marie/10,000 Days and Rosetta Stoned deserve to be in that conversation too.
For me, the lyrical subject and tone of the song 10,000 days is as gut wrenching and personal as anything I've ever heard by any artist. And Rosetta Stoned is in the running for being the masterpiece of their whole catalog.
There is not the slightest doubt in my mind that any new album will be excellent in all regards.

Several people need to cut the lights down, put on Hooker With a Penis, and listen very closely. Then you will realize that someone actually wrote a song about you. It's hilarious because you probably sing along with the chorus of that song, but it never registers that he's blasting you. The song Lateralus ... a song based on a logrithum of numbers that create a spiral, which is given by the syllables of the lyrics, that's lyrics encourage you to reach out further with yourself by saying ride the spiral, with a musical composition that will melt your face....I rather have to wait, than to get a forced bland album every other year.... or furthermore get one because "its time".

Maynard posted a pic on his Instagram last year & included the hashtag #tool2014 in its caption. That's the most official news of a "release date" from the man himself I'd seen/heard except some mention on the WTF Podcast of working w/ the band.
I wouldn't expect to hear any new material on this tour. Danny said in an interview that the band would love to preview songs to their audiences but can't afford to because of leaks/bootleggers/whatever the word is I'm looking for. Of course, this was years ago, & who's to say they haven't changed their minds.
In regard to Maynard not addressing fans, he did run (actually literally run) off the stage at the end of the New Orleans show in 2010, but seemed pretty sincere in thanking the audience for coming out when Puscifer played BR. In regards to it being an independent project, he said something along the lines of "It's just you & us. No one else."
