I've seen them 5 times. Voodoo Fest, then N.O. and B.R. on the Lateralus tour, and again in each city on the 10,000 Days tour. And yes, their show got stale in that time.
And they played Third Eye at at least three of those shows, if not 4.

Definitely last album. My wife ended up working with a member of Maynard's extended family for a while back in 09 and she was told that he had absolutely no passion for tool but it REALLY pays the bills. So they trudge along with basically the same tour every few years.

The two times I was able to see TOOL you got the impression his heart aint in TOOL
.
MJK just stood and sang mostly and at the end of the show walked off stage without addressing the crowd while the rest of the band did a wave and bow.
Its reasons like this i hate MJK save for his voice.

He did the same for APC in concert and he hides behind a TV monitor or in character for most of Puscifer. The fact that he doesn't make the show, music or band about him is the very reason I respect him so much. They put on a big show all around the music vs the band members.
If it were all about the money, they'd do more than these very short mini-tours. I can only imagine the overhead of getting a crew and going from city to city needs to be spread out over tours larger than 10 stops to make any real money.

And again in New Orleans in '10 I completely forgot I saw 'em then too. So that makes 6 times I've seen 'em.

Their set at bonnaroo in 07 was one of the best concerts i've ever seen.

He's done that FOREVER.... He is never out front in any of his three bands.
But from seeing Pusicfer live twice now, that is certainly where his heart is.

Unless Setlis.fm is wrong, they have only played 3rd Eye in 2010 at the lakefront....
They played it 11/8/2002 in the Centroplex for sure.

I never trust Setlist.fm. At least for the Tool concerts, those reviews are a very definitive answer since it is multiple "witnesses" who will argue and make corrections.

One of the reasons I started to not like Tool as much as I used to was Maynard. The guy is so damn full of himself and it seems like he just doesn't give a shite about the music any more. He just does it so he can make enough money to support his real hobby, which is making wine.

Yes, they do.
They don't list them as playing Flood in B.R. the last time they came, but I sure as hell seem to remember it being done there and not at the previous show in N.O., which is where they list it. Granted, my memory isn't always the best, but for the life of me I remember them playing it then in B.R. and not N.O.

I don't remember if they played in in BR during the May 07' show, but know for a fact they played it in NO in Nov 07'

It's all a matter of your point of view I guess. I think a musician who stands up there and wants accolades poured upon him is full of himself. He gives a quick wave to the crowd and vanishes after a show. He's notoriously reclusive, avoided most images of himself on any of their artwork (videos, most album art..etc). He's an anomaly in the rock world because he just kind of became this iconic figure mostly due to his reclusive nature.
I respect him because he does what he wants. He's a hot commodity for his abilities. Billy with APC has stated he'd love more of his time because he has lots of material that could use Maynard's lyrics and vocal work. Tool needs the same. The man pursues what interests him the most, and because of that his work has artistic merit.
Not trying to convince anyone of my point of view, but just sharing how I view the matter. I don't feel like the man owes me Tool lyrics because that is what I want most from his time. He does what he does and I appreciate the work he puts out.
