Trilogy is my Favorite. Who could watch this performance and not be an instant fan. Holy Hell!!!
It is so good. I wish they would release an upscaled version of Show. Even better, Paris, but I don’t think that was taped.
Trilogy is fantastic. Also bits and pieces for Play Out are very good.

Alone
I have to admit that I didn't take to the song when I heard it for the first time live in New Orleans. (Incidentally, that was the first tour date and first song played on the American leg).
Now that I hear the studio version, the song makes sense with all of the synth subtleties, and I like it.

“Alone” calls back to the 1989 album Disintegration and the 2000 album Bloodflowers with its captivating chord sequence, slow and gloomy progression, and ruminative lyrics. Robert Smith’s voice hasn’t aged in the slightest as he kicks off the first verse:
This is the end of every song that we sing
The fire burned out to ash and the stars grown dim with tears
Cold and afraid, the ghosts of all that we’ve been
We toast, with bitter dregs, to our emptiness
The lyrics pay homage to “Dregs” by Ernest Christopher Dowson, a poem exploring themes like grief, death, and loneliness. You know, the usual.
“It’s the track that unlocked the record; as soon as we had that piece of music recorded I knew it was the opening song, and I felt the whole album come into focus,” Smith said in a press release.
“I had been struggling to find the right opening line for the right opening song for a while, working with the simple idea of ‘being alone’, always in the back of my mind this nagging feeling that I already knew what the opening line should be… as soon as we finished recording I remembered the poem ‘Dregs’ by the English poet Ernest Dowson… and that was the moment when I knew the song—and the album—were real.”
Dregs
The fire is out, and spent the warmth thereof,
(This is the end of every song man sings!)
The golden wine is drunk, the dregs remain,
Bitter as wormwood and as salt as pain;
And health and hope have gone the way of love
Into the drear oblivion of lost things.
Ghosts go along with us until the end;
This was a mistress, this, perhaps, a friend.
With pale, indifferent eyes, we sit and wait
For the dropped curtain and the closing gate:
This is the end of all the songs man sings.

BTW, how often has a band toured a year or more in advance of the release of a new album and played 5-6 songs from it?

Every time you kiss me, I could cry she said
Don’t tell me how you miss me
I could die tonight of a broken heart
This loneliness, this change, we have been too far apart
It's too late now for me to just forget
I never thought I’d lead you to regret for all I ever was
All this time alone has left me cold and sad and lost
Yeah, every time you kiss me I could cry
Don't tell me how you miss me
I could die tonight of a broken heart
This loneliness has changed me, and I feel too far apart
Nothing you can say to change it back she said
Nothing you can do but sing
This love is a fragile thing
Nothing you can do to change it back she said
Nothing you can do to turn it back she said
Nothing you can do but sing
This love is a fragile thing
This love is my everything
There’s nothing you can do to change the end
There’s nothing you can do…
Every time you leave me is a lie she said
You make believe you need me, but you try too hard
And I feel so wrong
You promise me forever, and say it won’t be long
But it’s too late now for me to just forget
I never thought I’d lead you to regret for all I ever was
But all this time alone has left me cold and sad and lost
Yeah, every time you need me is a lie
You make believe you need me, but you try too hard I feel so wrong
You promised me forever, and say it won’t be long
There’s nothing I can do to change it back she said
Nothing you can do to but sing, this love is a fragile thing
Nothing you can do now but pretend again
Nothing you can do to change it back she said
Nothing you can do to but sing
This love is a fragile thing
This love is my everything
Nothing you can do to change the end
There’s nothing you can do to change the end

We'll get the full studio version of "A Fragile Thing" tomorrow, or technically sometime tonight based on the UK time difference. This is one I've been anticipating based on the live performance in NOLA last year.

Strange how they're releasing songs weekly-ish from this album. Even though they're populating in my iTunes (pre-ordered album), I'm holding off on listening until full album is available 11/1. So ready.

First run though the album and it's dense, somber, and cinematically lush with some great strings. Nothing is catchy or immediate but the lyrics, theme, and vibe are fitting for us aging fans who have been there from the start. Well worth the wait - last time I said that was when Fear Innoculum was released by TOOL.

No, but I am in Mississippi

What do you mean? I’m just excited to finally see all the songs lit up on Spotify and I love all The Cure talk everywhere I look.

I was quoting Snakepit lyrics because you said it felt like Christmas.
