The Queen Is Dead is the third studio album by the English rock band the Smiths, released on 16 June 1986 by Rough Trade Records.

By far my favorite Smiths album. All of the following are in my top 10 of theirs:
Cemetry Gates
Bigmouth Strikes Again
The Boy with the Thorn in His Side
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

Great group, great album. Hard to believe they were only together 5 years.

Yall are crazy!!
The Smiths can’t touch The Cure and never have. Especially when Marr left.
The Smiths on Tour nowadays Morrissey can barely make it through a show even with his shirt off.

Honestly the music is not comparable. It’s just a preference of music styles to pick The Smiths over The Cure. So just say that.

And even though I prefer The Cure 100% more I do speak objectively on this. The Cure’s catalog of music is far superior, not even close.

The music of The Smiths is so far superior to The Cure. I mean, The Cure is fine for kids and women, but it's not serious music other than maybe 3 songs.

The only time I saw the Smiths live was The Queen is Dead Tour.

It was incredible, and Marr killed it.

I'm siding with STiger on this one. Marr is the only redeeming quality in the band. Outside of maybe 3 songs, Morrissey is waaaay to pretentious to be taken seriously. His head is so far up his own arse. Frankly Mr Shankly this position I've held... Is he suppose to be serious with that?

I'll die on this hill too. Outside of Marr, what do you have? Morrissey's poetry and crooning? Oh that's cute for adolescent girls. Andy Rouke(RIP) hanging his hat on being a member of The Smiths. Don't even get me started on on the drummer who's living from lawsuit to lawsuit.

Bring on those downvotes and I'll bow out now.

I’m a fan of both but a much bigger fan of The Smiths.

Morrissey definitely rubs people the wrong way but he was an excellent songwriter and had a really good, unique and versatile singing voice.

Johnny Marr is obviously unrivaled as an alt 80s guitarist. Andy Rourke was an incredible bassist, creating many memorable bass lines with excellent precision. Mike Joyce was a more than adequate drummer.

Over 5 short years together, the 4 of them caught lightning in a bottle, which resulted in an extraordinary amount of great music. The legacy that they’ve left and the impact that they’ve had is undeniable, IMO.
