The Getaway is good but can’t hold a candle to Johns work with RHCP.

I don’t like the Trickfinger stuff, but I love almost all his other solo work.

Never saw why he belonged on any list of the greats. He’s ok.

Was actually just listening to the Getaway again today and I definitely reminded me of what they put out in the 90s

Honestly, I appreciate them more as I get older and the current music gets shittier and shittier. I didn't really like them that much back in the day.

As big as Flea and Kedis are to that band, Frusciante made the Chili Peppers. Everything they have done without him has been from not good to just ok. Everything they have done with him has been great.

I found a positive about this thread. I'll be listening to John Frusciante for the rest of the day.

I just don’t get the love for his solo work. I think RHCP and him are both better off together

Agree to disagree. I think Anthony is one of the worst vocalists in the history of rock. He's a one-trick pony and not particularly good at that trick. I think it has made RHCP fairly one-dimensional and I grew bored with it. Apparently John did, too.

Look at the work both John and Flea have done outside of RHCP and you can see how much talented musicians respect them. Nobody is asking Anthony to sing guest vocals. Meanwhile musicians from huge arrays of styles are falling over themselves to work with John or Flea.

He has certainly put out a few albums (Niandra Lades, Usually Just a T-Shirt, Trickfinger 1 & 2) that don't do much for me, but he's also put out some very good music.

I have tried to like John Frusciante's solo work. Each time I find myself changing it to Buckethead. I am a huge fan of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. And, will always love the contributions made by John. I am stoked, however, the sound for RHCP is changing again. The base lines are getting louder again like the early days. The piano and keyboards are a great touch as well. Trickfinger 1 and 2 is straight garbage. I am not a fan of John and Josh's collaborations either. DOT Hacker is painful to listen to as well. If I am in the mood for something soft without a typical Makeup, I'll listen to Electric Tears.

If you want to know how vital he was to RHCP, just try to get through more than 3 songs without cursing on the One Hot Minute Disaster with Navarro. Good God was he the wrong fit. It would be like, for one album, replacing Anthony with Chuck Mosley.

True, but The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is still one of my favorites. RHCP was going to be big with or without him.
shite, John himself was a huge RHCP fan before he joined the band.

John has a few albums, both pre- and post-rehab, that are swings and misses, but for the most part his solo work is immensely experimental and invariably great. He has so many different sounds that he nailed.

Chili Peppers are shite without him.

Medieval Chamber by Black Knights is a really solid album from the Trickfingers iteration.

I also enjoyed A Sphere in the Heart of Silence.

And you don't like Niandres? WTF kind of Frusciante fan are you?! I kid. I hated the album at first but damn it grew on me and may be one of my favorites.

Can't be stated enough. I prefer the earlier raw funk RHCP more so than the John/Rick Rubin years. But the millennials will still come out and state how John made the RHCP which isn't true. That path and trajectory was already there.
John may be a talented musician but he needs to work with a great producer or engineer to polish his material to where it's palatable for me. It seems every solo stuff I've tried to listen to from him is a mess that if refined, would ultimately be better. But at the same time, I get that he doesn't want or is going for that.
