I feel that way about the pre-John RHCP and that John and Rick came in and did just that for the band. The talent was there, it was just a bit of a mess before.

I have to disagree with that. It's one thing moving from an early independent sound and direction with one guitarist to pop with another. But it's all together different when the vibe of timing and sound is coming from a recorded 4 track in a living room demo tape when you've had access to a higher quality production room. I get that's not what he's going for but his talent shines more in those situations. It's only my opinion and preference of his stuff.
