"He stated he was probably proudest of the Touch and Go solo."

I actually know a guitar tutor that knows Eliott very well. He says he's a really nice guy, and loves to talk.

He relayed a story Elliot told to him about them touring Great Britain in the late 70s with Graham Parker before they had a contract.

I guess Ocasek left a notebook full of music and lyrics in a van after a gig and Parker found it later and ripped them in the press about the lyrics. A lot of those songs ended up being huge hits later throughout their first two albums.

EE does come across as approachable and down to earth. Maybe your friend can solve the "Its all I can do" mystery for us.
I think Benjamin Orr also lost some treasured instruments in a fire at a Boston area apartment he was staying in during the late 70's.
eta, I had read that Rics notebook was lost or stolen in Europe. I think they mention this in the hard to watch final interview....

"Don't go to pieces" is a cool B side from the "Just what I needed" greatest hits double CD.
I'm too much of a fan boy to pick a favorite song though.

Don't go to pieces

Orr just based off songs. Like more of those than the others. Both lists are great tho

Unfortunately no, that's really all I remember. I'm no longer regularly in touch with him.

Orr because you have to add Candy-O and It's All I Can Do to your Orr list.

To be truthful they have a lot of songs where if I have not seen a video I have a hard time telling who is singing. Their production style didn't exactly blast the vocals out in front of the music and to me their vocal styles are kind of similar. There is stuff of theirs that is clearly Ocasek singing (You Might Think, Shake It Up, Misfit Kid, Since You're Gone, etc.) but a lot of the songs Orr sang on don't sound much different from Ocasek vocal songs. Hell, it wasn't until I saw some old Midnight Special video a few years ago that I found out Orr sang Just What I Needed. I'd always thought that was Ocasek.

Sorry if I am monopolizing or derailing thread, but for those who are interested, these are IMO, the performances that defined the band.

Rock Goes to College, they were not appreciated in Britain and we're heckled, and an angry Benjamin Orr stares down a drink thrower during Bye Bye Love. Easton stares down same drink-thrower during blistering solos, Hawkes with an incredible saxophone on All Mixed Up. Epic My Best Friend's Girl solo. Aloof Ric cool as a cuke and Robinson driving the beat. They played this show with a huge chip on their shoulders.

Cars-Rock Goes to College

Germany, Musikladen. Incredible performance. Ric chewing gum while singing, Greg Hawkes in a Star Trek shirt bouncing around the stage having the time of his life on guitar and Benjamin Orr at his absolute best with bonus air kick in Take What You Want and best ever Candy O live.

Musikladen

France. Not much footage:

Cars-France

Eta, anyone who watches these videos will realize Orr and Ocasek sound distinctly different.

Touch and Go is a cool song with a really tasty guitar solo. John Lennon liked this song.

Orr made me feel better about myself. I have been learning "Just What I Needed" for my band. I play bass and I am singing it. It is hard to play bass and sing. As I am learning it, I have to keep looking down to make sure I am playing the right thing. That is not a big deal when not singing a song, but when I am singing, I am self-conscious about having to look at the fretboard.
Well, I saw a Cars video of the song and don't you know, Orr is constantly looking down at his fretboard while singing the song. Ok, I feel better now. Sometimes watching live performances can give you a boost.
