His guitar work on 25 or 6 to 4 at Tanglewood concert is phenomenal
Hendrix once mentioned Kath was his favorite guitarist.
Because of Chicago’s uniqueness Kath was somewhat overlooked as one of the great guitarists of his time.
Check out his solo here

Look for the documentary "Terry Kath Experience: A Daughter's Journey" on AXS TV. It's been running in recent weeks.
Here's the site for it: LINK

Definitely one of the most underrated guitar players of all time.

There's a documentary on Chicago either on Netflix or Showtime, I can't remember. Very entertaining.
Kath was the heart and soul of Chicago. After his death, they were never the same.
FTR, Hendrix said that Kath was much better than he was. According to Chicago band members.

I saw another documentary where Walt Parazaider related the story of Hendrix visiting them backstage after a gig and saying "Your horn section is like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me". Then they opened for him on tour.
Chicago I, II, and III are still in my playlists. They were really a great band back in that first decade.

His playing was like a loaded gun—ready to go off in an instant.

I loved Terry Kath Chicago as much as anyone and still listen. But that joke...

Nah man. I’m up for tasteless jokes like the next guy. Not the fact that it was tasteless just not a very funny joke. Y’all need to step up the sense of humor

Well thanks!
Too soon?...it’s only been 41 years.
Maybe I’ll start a new Phish thread...that’ll get me some downvotes...

Check out 'Hideaway' and 'Anyway You Want' from Chicago VIII. They are Cetera songs but he allows for Terry to shine. Terry's ode to Hendrix 'Thank You Great Spirit' is on there as well

Those of you who are Chicago and Kath fans should make it to a performance by Leonid & Friends, now on tour in the USA.
The story so far
Note of interest: Kath's widow went to meet these folks when they performed in New York earlier this year.

I’ve said before I was a young 15 yo straight out of the sticks in north Mississippi when I got to see Chicago. Very close to the stage . The energy that came from those guys was unbelievable. The horns and how badass the drummer was really stuck with me . Most of all Terry Kath . 45 years ago

Watched it for about the fifth time this.

Too bad he sucked at gun safety.

how badass the drummer was
they started taking themselves too seriously and became far too technical for their own good. They fired him for a number of reasons that I can't remember, but one was that he wasn't doing a good job of keeping them on rhythm or whatever. When you start chipping away at the soul of a band, you end up with where they were in the 80s/90s. And now they're basically a cover band of themselves.
Even with all that said, they still put on a hell of a show (saw them last summer), but they haven't really been able to put out quality stuff like in albums I-V in forever.
Interesting factoid: Terry Kath's widow is now married to Keifer Sutherland, and her daughter with him is the daughter in VEEP lol.

Leonid & Friends,
They are so damned good in their studio recordings/videos. I'm curious how it translates to live sets. I've seen videos of those as well but it's hard for me to tell.
The dude with the long hair singing vocals is about as close to sounding like Peter Cetera than anyone that Chicago has brought in to fill that void.
