A random assortment of songs that sampled other songs. Some are obvious; others surprised me a bit.

What's the difference in sampling a song and stealing/ripping off a song? Excuse the lame reference but I heard Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" the other day and immediately thought it sounded just like "Runaround Sue". I go online to check out the songwriting credits for Meghan Trainor's song and it's just her and some douche producer. The chord progression and backing vocals are exactly the same. The amount of the old song they used reminds me a lot of the Sam Smith/Tom Petty "Stay with Me" mess.
On the Runaround Sue wikipedia page it says "Meghan Trainor sampled the song for her 2015 hit "Dear Future Husband"." They certainly did. They sampled the crap out of it.

I guess it depends?
That definitely gives off that Vanilla Ice vibe when he tried to deny Ice Ice Baby didn't take from Under Pressure.

Props to Blackstreet's No Diggity...it isn't everyone who appreciates the art of Bill Withers for their sample.

The fact that Gangsta's Paradise used samples surprised me. Probably shouldn't have, but it did.

At least half the songs on Robert Plant's Now and Zen album have Led Zeppelin samples in them. Tall Cool One alone has about half a dozen different ones.

More-so for Paul's Boutique. The dust brothers (the producers on that album) were geniuses. Paul's Boutique could not be made today given what artists have to pay for samples in this environment.
