Damon Albarn - Gorillaz (technically a duo but other half only responsible for artwork) and solo work after Blur

This is a good one.
While Blur was a decent band. I personally listen to Gorillaz a lot more

This should apply to people who were in bands that were famous. Virtually every artist was in a band at some point.

My original thoughts, but I didn't want to muddle up the original question. Well said.

My two contenders would be Lionel Ritchie and Aaron Lewis.

Rainbow Rising is better than Holy Diver. Dio was Rainbow's singer for the first three albums, all of which are great.

He never really left the Heartbreakers but Tom Petty solo albums Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers were outstanding

I like Peter Gabriel’s solo stuff more than when he was in Genesis.

Wow. That's a bold statement. Lamb and England are REALLY strong albums. Classics, in fact, imo. It's objective, of course, but damn lol

It is a bold statement. I am a huge Genesis fan, and a Peter Gabriel fan as well. And as great as early Genesis (w/ Gabriel) was, Peter Gabriel's solo work as is fantastic, and in my opinion, slightly surpasses Genesis.
Oh, and by the way, Phil Collins solo stuff (with the exception of a few songs) sucks arse.

Rod Stewart solo> The Jeff Beck Group
Rod Stewart solo> Faces
Jack White solo> The White Stripes
Joan Jett solo> The Runaways
Beyonce solo> Destiny's Child (not a fan, but an obvious one)
Michael Jackson> Jackson 5

Peter Cetera solo much worse than Chicago, especially Chicago with Terry Kath

Yes, Rod Stewart was in Faces. A great group, but his solo work after that was better, IMO.

Fair enough... I will wholeheartedly disagree... I always go back to this quote about Rod's solo career from Greil Marcus..

quote:

"Rarely has a singer had as full and unique a talent as Rod Stewart; rarely has anyone betrayed their talent so completely."

This one is fascinating because Rod Stewart has Every Picture Tells a Story and Gasoline Alley which are both brilliant. I'm going with Rod and those two albums over Truth and Oh La La.

Beyonce solo is certainly more successful than Destiny Child (plus now has had many more years) but musically Destiny Child was higher quality

Personally I vote Ozzy > Black Sabbath but certainly understand I am in the minority and respect the position BS have in metal history. Mostly because I much prefer all of Ozzy's guitarists over Tony Iommi.

I would actually agree with this statement for everything that Rod Stewart did after 1975. The Gasoline Alley, Every Picture Tells A Story and Never A Dull
Moment albums were great.
Atlantic Crossing was his last decent album (but not great). As soon as Ron Wood stopped playing with him, he started sucking. Songs like Do You Think I'm Sexy ad Hot Legs are so cringeworthy. He just stopped trying after 1975.

Last In Line is better than Holy Diver, too.

The only Rainbow tunes sung by Dio that the average person knows are "Man on The Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock and Roll". That's it.
