Stones were a hell of a lot cooler but they also had some sustained periods of mediocrity. Beatles were generally better but I'd rather put on Exile at any given time than a Beatles album.

The Stones, like Michael Jordan tainted their legacy. Still teetering around the stage. The Beatles died/were killed so this was never an issue.

Hijack question..... Who did most of The Stones writing? The early better stuff? Painted Black, Sympathy For the Devil, etc?

Keith usually came up with the riffs

The lyrics were generally from both Mick and Keith

I say Beatles because the Stones have a much higher ratio of shitty pointless songs to good ones than the Beatles do. Did we really need a cover of "Going to a Go-Go?" WTF.
