It seems to be the consensus. Any other challengers? Lourde? LCD Soundsystem?

I'm a die hard hip hop and Kendrick fan but I have DAMN as the 4th best hip hop album this year.

It definitely looks like it will top the most critics’ lists. A Deeper Understanding is my personal AOTY.

The War On Drugs album is my favorite of the year. Julien Baker's second. Lamar's third.

LCD Soundsystem is light years ahead of the Kendrick album. DAMN was hot for like a week then got really old, really quickly. K-dot tries too hard.

People actually listen to Kendrick Lamar? I thought his albums were just included in annual rankings for virtue signaling purposes?

Lorde's album is topping a lot of lists (rightfully). DAMN isn't my top album. Kevin Morby's city music is up there. The National's album is super good. LCD Soundsystem, obviously. Elder and Pallbearer were both great. Wasn't a great year for hip hop for me. There were good albums, but I just didn't find myself returning to them over and over for some reason.

I still don't understand Kendrick Lamar. Most of his songs are just noise. Whatever, though. I know I'm not the target demographic.

I'm surprised Vince Staples isn't getting more love.

Hurray for Riff Raff's The Navigator got tons of pub when it came out, but that was almost a year ago now. I still love that album, but its not fairing that well in the polls.

My favorite record was Charly Bliss' Guppy, but it's too airy and light to win AOTY. But it is fun as hell.

I'm one of the biggest Kendrick fans you will find and I do love DAMN a lot, but this was a spectacular year for hip-hop. I feel like Saturation II, ALL-AMERICAN BADA$$, and 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time were better albums. DAMN is still a top 10 album of the year though.

That Charly Bliss album is fun. Girls voice is something else but still fun.

People slept on that new Bully album as well which was some perfect grrl punk.

Saturation II is probably my rap album of the year. I loved a lot of metal and folk. Unfortunately, there was no Carseat Headrest for me this year that I just couldn’t stop listening to. Kevin Morby was the closest I came to an album on repeat over a prolonged period. No one else seemed to give a shite about it though.
