My top 3 were the war on drugs - a deeper understanding, the national - sleep well beast, and brand new - science fiction

That was an unbelievable month for new releases

Slowdive
Kevin Morby
LCD Soundsystem
Four Tet
War on Drugs

thats my top 5. not really in any order

Kendrick's album, like all of his albums, has good stuff and bad. It's like every album since Good Kid has been less consistently good, but for some reason sucked off even harder by the critics. DAMN. is alright, but not even top 10.

some other good stuff like the new Ariel Pink and Big Thief and some other shite

outside of maybe 2-3 songs I have no desire to listen to DAMN. again

Totally missed that he dropped an album this year, going to have to listen to that ASAP. This year was so amazing for music.

Yeah, because the intentional misspelling of words for an album title must mean the whole genre is crap.
I know this is hard to believe, but there is, in fact, a lot of good rap music.

Rap haters are the fricking WORST. the atheists or vegetarian douchebags of music listeners. never pass an opportunity to tell anyone how all rap is trash, not real music, blah blah etc

Anyway. I find myself following the beats more with rap these days. Usually if its metro, mike will, zaytoven, or a handful of others then im usually in. Most of this generation of rappers are pretty interchangeable on a dope beat. Minus a few of course

I never said the whole genre is crap. I gave my opinion (somewhat tongue and cheek, I might add). Maybe I should have stuck a laughing emogji at the end.

Never a good defense when you start a sentence with 'I know this is hard to believe.'

First single was awful. It was like some white guilt maklemore shite that also heavily indulged in obscene levels of cultural appropriation (referring to the plight of african americans using the collective "we").

For what it's worth, the last and only rap album I ever bought was Public Enemy's 'Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black,' back in the day; way back in the day. GOAT for me.

Sadly yes. My expectations for his new album are extremely low and I'm a big Em fan.

If you enjoy Apocalypse 91 pick up It Takes a Nation of Millions and Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy, both are fantastic and It Takes a Nation of Millions is a top ten all time hip-hop album.

Kendrick's isn't in my top ten. Really good year for music. I still have some late cramming to do, but I've listened to a pretty good amount, and some albums I thought were really great.

1. Beck
2. Portugal. The Man
3. Haim
4. Phoenix

I think there is a dropoff after the top 4. I think that #5 is maybe Spoon or Lorde.

I"m surprised that nobody else has these four in their top whatever. I guess that's music.

All of that is too poppy, mainstream and formulaic for those that think they know what good music is.
