Guns N' Roses is one of my all-time favorite bands, and I love Slash's playing, so it would be really close. Jimmy Page is a rock n' roll legend and one of the forefathers of the hard rock/heavy metal guitar style. So in terms of influence, it would definitely be Jimmy Page. In terms of personal preference, definitely Slash.

Jimmy.

Not only because he's better but also because slash isn't real.

I don't think I'd recruit a soon to be 70 year old guitarist to start a band. That said, at the same ages no comparison. You can argue about the specific placement, but on Rolling Stone's Alltime Greatest Guitarist list Page is #3 and Slash #65. That's close enough to reflect their place in guitarist hierarchy.

He just sounds pretty vanilla to me. I still respect him as he was a rock pioneer.

Neither.

Give me Pete Townshend or Johnny Marr.

Love them both, jimmy was cutting edge. Slash better technically.

First off I'm biased towards Page...

However both are great. Slash is a little cleaner player.

However if starting a band it would be Page not only for his guitar talent, but all he brought to the table with production talent and creating new sounds. IMO he is way more innovative than Slash.

how anyone could use the term "vanilla" to describe Jimmy Page's playing...the first 4 albums exhibit a breadth of styles/techniques few rock guitarists have approached.

That is an opinion. Like I said, I appreciate him from what he did in the past, he was a pioneer.

Well if that's the case I'm calling up Jonny Wickersham. That dude is lights out I'm a big fan of Slash that's why I'd pick him! Nothing against Page! I have nearly every Zeppelin song so I love him too just not as much as Slash!

If we can choose 'neither', my choice is to have a séance and raise Duane Allman from the dead.

Kind of my reaction.

I've developed a better appreciation of all things Led Zeppelin as I've gotten older. I wasn't that big of a fan as a teen.
