I know of no "band" like them now or before. How do you end up playing the kind of music they play? What did they grow up listening to? Who/what influenced them?

I've sen them live before

Live, it was honestly like something from another world. That band is fantastic.

There are no direct connections but I'm reminded of these bands when I listen:

Talk Talk, Slowdive, Spiritualized, Björk, Brian Eno, Cocteau Twins, Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Robert Fripp/KC, Sonic Youth, U2

I think of The Sugarcubes.

Maybe it's only b/c of the Iceland thing though.

My take as well. I just don't enjoy them. Clearly talented, I like that they take their chances, but the idea of listening to their music puts my teeth on edge. I prefer Godspeed You Black Emperor! and I'm not a big fan of them either.

Phillip Glass,, Stephen Reich, Robert Fripp, Bryan Eno, The Residentsand Mogwai.....I believe SR draws a lot of influence from these people and a lot of Ambient Music.

I don't think all music comes from "influence". Give some credit to creativity.

What I mean by that is: they were clearly influenced by The Beatles. Next!

Yea, that was a good show. They're definitely not for everybody.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure they were really big Iron Maiden fans. The most insight you'll find is from interviews with Jonsi.

Wife likes Sigur Ros...me, not so much. She emailed a link to a vimeo video by them featuring Shia LaBouef (sp?) a month or so ago. After watching the first minute of the video, I like them even less.

These guys are original as hell. They have influenced the hell out of me. I can see how someone wouldn't like it though, an acquired taste I guess. Jonsi just sings with so much emotion and the band plays so tight and well together. They seem to do it all for the love of the music and not ego based bs.
