Was gonna post the same.

I believe all the originals are all gone and I know Ed King (non original) also passed recently.

Very sad and Gary was featured prominently in the Netflix special (If I Leave Here Tomorrow)which every Skynyrd fan needs to watch.

RIP

co-wrote Simple Man with RVZ. Just that alone puts him in the pantheon.

Legit question: what is his...ethnicity?

The sole remaining original member of LYNYRD SKYNYRD, Rossington has dealt with a number of health issues in recent years. Back in July 2021, he underwent emergency heart surgery. Six years earlier, he suffered a heart attack, prompting several of the band's concerts to be canceled. He also underwent quintuple bypass surgery back in 2003 due to coronary artery disease. In 2019, he had an operation to fix a leaky heart valve.

Last of the original band. Was the only one ion the current line-up from the original group.

That said, Skynrd will probably continue on. People love the music just that much.

I consider Artimus to be an “original member” but he’s the only one left other than that one dude that tours with them that quit the band before they got big. Was in Blackfoot, I believe.

On The Hunt - Winterland 1975

Such a great opening riff. Then Gary's solo...BAMF.

April 25, 2008 Lafayette Cajundome

The manager of Ticketmaster called me and asked if I wanted tickets for the concert that night. I said who and where? Skynyrd, front row. Oh hell yeah!

Hank Jr. opened for the band.

Skynyrd came out and Johnny Van Zant gave me a fist bump....Gary Rossington was right in front of us, feet away. Billy Powell was still on piano.

When they played That Smell...whiskey bottle, brand new car, oak tree you're in the way....I pointed at Gary (who had crashed his car) and he gave me a head nod.

I have some great pictures, but am inept with picture posting on this sight.

I have seen plenty of concerts, but this was the first when Freebird was requested and the band delivered.

Edit: Gary threw me his guitar pick and I still have it....

Don't think anyone considers him an original member. He replaced Bob Burns in 74/75 and Ricky Medlocke also played drums before Pyle came on board.

Oh, I know he wasn’t in the original lineup. I meant the original band from the 70s. He played on 4 of their 6 albums.

And Medlocke is the guy I was talking about.

Got a chance to check on the crash site memorial in Mississippi not that long ago.
Their former head of security/Ronnie’s best friend happened to be there. He survived the crash. He was very nice but i also wasn’t going to be an a-hole and ask him to rehash anything from that night.

Sad news. Gave us so much awesome music.

I think Ricky Medlocke played with Skynyrd in their early studio sessions so in one sense he was an original.
